    What was your first camera?

I started with Vivitar P&S then quickly moved up to Minolta 3xi back in 1992 or so. Not happy with limited feature of 3xi, I bought 600si in 1995. This camera served me very well until last year when I bought Minolta A200. Though the 600si is still working until now, it's practically retired...

True newbie qn: Thirsty hippo for silica gel?

Yes and after a while (like few months...) the drying capability goes up to 40 , 50, 60 and then time to replace with new one. If worried that it's too dry, occassionally just open the door for a few second and the humidity will go up again. ;)

how many pixel is good for a 4R printout?

Agree. I've got quite a number of photos from my 2MP camera printed by photolab at 4R with great result. I don't think anyone will be able to easily differentiate whether the pictures were printed from film or digital. It was not at the maximum pixel setting and the file size translates to about...

    recommend a DSLR!!

Shuy, You can treat the above picture as original picture as I didn't do any post processing except simple resizing. The original file is more than 1MB so I don't want want to clog the page. The ISO was already bumped up to 400 but still need 1/10s. While it's true that KM has more limited...

    Reccommend a Tripod?

Adelfin, If you don't mind panhead instead of ballhead, I recommend Slik 500DX. The price is reasonable, too. I have Slik 300DX. I found it quite solid and easy to operate but I wish the lever-lock found in 500DX.

    recommend a DSLR!!

To show you how effective the AS is, this picture was taken handheld at 1/10 of a second using kit lens. No post processing was done except resizing.

    recommend a DSLR!!

And that is including the kit lens (18-70mm) and 1G card. No need to pick up from the US (unless you want Maxxum label) and start shooting now. :D

    Other Brand Flash Light

Thanks Pai, I don't really want to spend a lot fo the flash. Actually I have old 3500xi but since it's not really compatible with 5D then need another one. No complain so far with this flash regarding the power but yes it's nice to have swivel head.

Please help me decide whether to get Minolta 5D or Nikon D70s.

Picture sharpness depends on several things including shutter speed, subject movement, hand shake and your camera setting. Lens quality is less important for non-extreme enlargement. Kit lens will do the job well. You have Anti Shake and you can increase sharpness with your camera setting and...
