I had actually been planning a trip up to malaysia to visit some friends sometime in August too and one of those kind souls let me on to this site about a prepaid SIM card from DIGI. Just thought it would be useful since there are quite a few of you. It should work like the M Card from M1. I know that accomodations must have already been settled. But as a second cheap alternative, the Baba Guesthouse does look cheap and clean. RM30 per person for a night.

I have recently purchased the Lonely Planet's guide book to Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei. It does show where to eat, drink, shop and go to in Penang with addresses. And has quite a few useful details. I would be happy to bring it down to your meeting if any would like to take a look.
