Comprehensive K3 Review Out! - on PF

Thats actually why I linked it here.
He now certainly has a Nikon bias, but in the end despite that, the K3 made him grudgingly give it the best thumbs up recommendation for a Pentax camera review ever on his site.
Because it was too good :D

Phew that was a long review! But I really didn't detect any Nikon bias at all - in fact in my eyes the review was nothing but glowingly in favor of the K3. The only bad things he had to say was the video implementation, AF performance and lens selection still lagging behind Canikon. The former I don't know since I don't use, but the latter two are probably true (in terms of AF tracking and native long lenses with AF anyway).

"We can safely say that the K-3 is the most compelling Pentax DSLR that has been produced to date, and it may also be the most sophisticated APS-C DSLR currently on the market for shooting stills. At $1299 it is very competitively and fairly priced, and it is a great value."

"The K-3 sets new benchmarks for APS-C image quality, framerate, and buffer size: something that other manufacturers should be very jealous of!"

"he Pentax K-3 is a pleasure to use, and it has exceeded our expectations in many ways. We think that this will be a dream camera for many enthusiast photographers, but it will certainly not be out of reach at its reasonable price of $1299. With the K-3, Pentax has successfully improved on their old flagship and addressed virtually all of the generational issues associated with it. This was undoubtedly no easy task, as the K-5 II was already a top-rated DSLR to begin with."

Maybe I'm guilty of selective reading and these are taken out of context - but where is the Nikon bias and Pnetax bashing? :dunno:

See you already took the not as many lens and AF tracking still behind comments at face value.
It wasn't even necessary to compare or mention them in the review.
Especially when those are half truths or not easy to establish (esp not in that uncomprehensive and flawed comparison of AF
Not only that, different priced cameras, different lens and the DA60-250/4 is not known to be the fastest AF lens; different priced lenses.

Its like I review D800 or 5DIII and then I add on to compare it to Sigma DP1m and say that the Sigma is smaller, lighter and kicks the D800's ass in low ISO IQ for 1/5 the price.
Necessary to rain on the D800/5DIII review in that way, just to make it seem my review is unbiased?
Not even a fair comparison since I also left out that the DP1m does not AF fast; takes 13s to write a file; cannot do a decent ISO>200?

I see a lot of things that don't need to be said in the review.
Don't need to be negative for negative sake.

But like I said, what impressed me was that despite all said, they had to give it the highest recommendation so far that I've seen for a Pentax camera review from that site.

Just realized K3 cost more than Nikon D7100!
How is that possible? K5 was it costing more than Nikon 7000?

Why do some Pentaxians like to put their gear up for comparison with Nikon? That is something I don't quite understand. If you own a Pentax, just be happy with it and care not about what the rest think. A review is what it is being called. There is no need to succumb to it.

those who consider Nikon won't go for pentax any way.
those who like pentax wont go for nikon any way.
those who plan to jump ship will jump ship any way.
it doesn't matter much for either side.

Is a Pentax K3 identical to a Nikon D7100 other than being in the same price bracket?

Just use Compare Camera tool in DPReview, and you will see some reasons for the additional cost. :)

SR mechanism
The CDAF is better and no more shutter down-up lag upon shutter release.
peaking
full mag alloy body
AA and non-AA option
Large buffer

IMO, all cost a bit more.

And D7100 is alaredy a year old

What he meant is that if you have the $$$, just go get the K3

Does k3 have focus peaking?
