Comprehensive K3 Review Out! - on PF

If you are not a Pentax user but are looking for a dSLR camera right now, my suggestion is the same, just buy the K3 and forget about others (FF included).

Hi guys, i am coming from a micro-43 system and has the Olympus E-M5 but may be looking to move into APSC DSLR domain... and I am looking at the K-3 with interest given it's good price point and good reviews.

I am lens noobie for other systems, so beside the kit lens, what would be a good trio of lens to start with that covers the 35mm equiv. of UWA or WA or a UWA zoom, good protrait/macro prime and a decent telephoto (read that 50-200mm DA is good start). Hope to know about their prices as well.

My current M43 lenses of 35mm equiv. are: 28mm f2.5, 50mm f1.4, and a 120mm f2.8 macro, thinking if i move on to K-3 what would be a good lens set.

Thanks.

thanks felixcat, will prolly also research into the lenses in your signature :)

Looks to me that the DA Ltds will suit you the best!

1) DA21/3.2
2) DA35/2.8 Macro or DA35/2.4
3) DA50/1.8 or DA70/2.4, or if you insist with macro, DFA 50/2.8 Macro! :D

Actually if you are using a Pentax camera, my suggestion is to just go ahead and buy the K3. You'd be amazed how much improvement this one has over all other Pentax SLR cameras (digital or film).

this is very promising and encouraging words!

I usually will bring along a UWA, normal, short tele for travels, and the range of focal length works well enough imo.

Nowadays, its usually the DA15ltd; FA31ltd (or FA35) and the FA77ltd.
There are other options to choose from in Pentax's aps-c prime lens line-up
(eg. UWA -DA12-24/4; DA14/2.8; 'Normal' - DA21ltd; DA35/2.4; FA35/2; FA31ltd; DA40; Short Tele - DA70ltd; FA77ltd; DA50/1.8; FA50/1.4 )
There are also zoom lenses to mix and match of course as well as 3rd party ones.

I had m4/3 before, but in the end, I prefer the more robust aps-c files for post processing and printing.
For me, Pentax is a fine balance between DSLR style handling in a smaller DSLR style system (than Canikony) with smaller lenses and cheap entry level WR lenses.
Topped with generous features and good handling.

Some recent sets using the above combo.

Thanks bro! Much appreciated on your post. I am at such a crossroad too. Some of the DA lenses have very slim profiles. Btw is K3 raw supported in LR5 already? Thanks.

DA12-24 f4, DA*16-50 f2.8, DA*50-135

DA21, FA31, FA77

incidentally, DA21, FA31 and FA77 is my most liked travel combi..
