I'll offer something constructive..

I started with 40D and a 17-85 IS. Did a job to earn 1k.. upgraded to 17-55 f2.8 IS.

Did another job for another 1k, upgraded to 24-70 f2.8.

When 5D2 was announced, I did yet another job for 1k, sold my 40D and 24-70 before it depreciated till where it is right now. Along the way I rented camera to do more jobs or borrow my friend's camera.

And bought the 5D2.

I hope it doesn't come to you as bragging but in my case, I simply save and work towards my goal. And certainly I feel that the end justified the means. If you feel that the means justify the end, I strongly eencourage you to go for it. Its a great cam.

That's the right attitude! Save, save, save and achieve your goal!

By Planning:

New 5DII $3800
Sell 400D -$500
Sell 50mm -$100
Sell 430EX -$380
Sell 17-40 - $900
==============
Left $1920
Divide by 12
=============
$160 per month

Try saving $160 per month first and use your s90 for photography.

Income - expense = savings
Savings - investment = buffer
Investment * return^n = wealth

The higher positive difference between your income & expense (either by increasing your income or decreasing your expense), the bigger your savings, the more savings you have that you can use for good investment, the better return you can get, and that can then be compounded to generate more dough for investment. That is call snowballing. Once you understand this, you know how to afford a 5D2, and more.

Heh.. no money don't buy. No need to think twice.

+1. LOL... This thread cracks me up. Are you envious when you see people with 5DII? Start taking better pictures with whatever you have and make the masses envious of your photographic skills man.

On the other hand, if you demand the IQ, consider the 5D Classic. Nothing else comes close for the price of 5D.

Think if you need to ask then you shouldn't be buying it hehehehe :)

Its a never ending addiction....

Rather than being envious to ppl with 5DmkII
why dont you practice and improve your photography skills until ppl will say "wah he can take that pic using only 400D, I use 5DmkXX also cannot. I envy him leh... "

That would be better... hahaha

never buy using borrowed money. I rather you go prostitute yourself to buy using cold hard earned cash.

I think installment/loan (legit loans) is good as long as you have a stable monthly income and good control of yourself. Lots of people do it, maybe you or your family also do it, but you just don't realize it. Some examples are home loans, car loans and other kinds of loans that could help them buy things that need or want with the money that has yet to come.

But ofcourse, prostituting yourself is the easiest way to get some mulah ;p hehehehe

Work hard and Save hard. i won't spend money that i can't afford or will costs me a lot of problems at home. Hobbies must be maintain at a ''no sweat'' kind of lifestyle or costs. else don't buy. If is for work, i will not stop at anything to buy anything i need if i can justify the cost.(and i don't mean photography equipment)

my friends say i seow buy 100L and 7D for work..but what they don't know is i can easily recover the costs back...so it is a no brainer to me...you shld see what sprewell did. i think that is a very solid advise.

Pls don't think of installment also(unless u have very good reason) or even borrowing to buy...it is bad habbits. there is no glory or honor to that.

Well, i got all my gear, 5d2 + 3 L lenses from my father-in-law. He cant get used to a Canon after being a Nikon user and after passing the canon, he bought a D3.

Haha, just shoot with whatever you have and concentrate on lenses till the 400D is the bottleneck..

Loans for big ticket items are perfectly ok as it helps you achieve long term goals, eg of owning a property, car, wedding banquet etc. But if you need to loan for cameras and consumer goods, then it is not a good idea at all.

Your wife have other sisters still single and pretty too?

:bsmilie:

I used to ask this:

Where do you guys get the dough for a 200mm f2L & 300mm f2.8L?!?

:bsmilie:

Owning a car is much more than buying a 5DM2, my car take up about $2k every month includes installment, petrol, parking etc. That excludes road tax, insurance and maintenance.

So if TS owns a car, sell it and use the money to save for 3 months and there you have your 5Dm2.

I only can afford Sony A330 lor, you still have your Canon xxD wor.............
