The very first question before a photographer go and shoot a model is probably the intention and purpose of the shoot. What are you shooting for? Is it for your portfolio or for some potential ad or for your own stock library.

The model release form, which have many variants in the internet ready for download, protects the interest of the model as well as the photographer. It also restrict the usage of the image for most contracts as this is not a free for all meal. The more purpose or usage for the eventual image, the higher the model fee. You are not going to pay peanuts to a professional model and have her pix on a big company ad all over the world.

Hope this helps.

Nonetheless, pls ensure that you get a copy of the model release for every shoot, or else, the shooting session is as good as none and it is your responsibility to ensure that the photo is not misused in bad taste.
