The Unicorn has Finally Appeared - Pentax Announces its FF camera at CP+

It can't be anything less than a 24 mp sensor, more likely a 36 mp imo. Pentax is so late in the game its got to pull out all the stops to make it happen. If not it won't even be in the running.

You want your Leika to work without seeing too much issues mah! :D

But yeah.
The World could have stopped circa 2005 with 12mp FF and things could have been good enough.
It certainly did not prevent good images to be made.

For the generalist, I would still think a bit more mp over 12 gives sone flexibility.
12mp is a bit more specialised.

Jk, I wasn't for a Pentax 12mp FF if my message wasn't clear enough, and certainly no leica involved here.

What I think is Pentax really need something substantially higher, esp. if they want to cater for the crop lenses they have. I think based on what I saw from the 36mp was it goes down to about 14mp or slightly more. Whether a not it's in the running, who knows. Just make sure they deliver on their commitments, and I think Pentax user base will be happy.

looks like 24~36MP is the way to go unless they have something up their sleeves... hopes are high on this one...

24MP FF cropped is crap. Has to be at least 36MP.

The MP it will be something sony is already currently producing... 12/16/24/36.... wont be something new or other MP... its not like you can go ntuc and buy off the shelves...
They have to work with the fab, what is fab is producing and what the fab is capable off....I don't think sony will develop a new type of sensor just for pentax base on their wafer loading.

If its a new MP size, you will see it in N brand first, why because their wafer orders are bigger for sure, sony will develop new technologies for the bigger customer because N wants it and N will place orders for it... pentax can of course ride on that... so if year end you don't see a new MP size from Nikon, then most likely it will be either 24/36...

in fact I think I will be 24/36 MP.... consider mature product already and cheaper for sure, also pentax orders sure is lower so cannot pick and choose...

btw I am also fan of 12MP sensor :bsmilie: keeping my 12MP sensor body till it up lorry (touch wood)

It will be interesting how many who have moved on or own other camera brands will come back and own this Pentax FF. The new FF will have to over deliver to even come close to current offerings in terms of price and spec. If there are no teething issues that have plagued cameras like the D600 or D750, I see a good opportunity for Pentax to create a loyal following.
I've already grown used to the small size of the X series and M4/3. Lazy liao.. Though I must say the X series interface is actually not so suitable for landscape. Turning dials to manually bracket can move the camera a bit. But I can accept the trade offs. Plus no UWA mentioned yet.. Heh.

By the way you've been missing for a while! Me too I know.

Very smart analysis on the size.
Basically only a little bigger than k3.

That's real small for a FF dslrwith SR and the works.

Think this is a 2D view. We do not know what is the depth of this camera. If they do not put in 4K video recording, its still possible to be as thick as K3. If 4K video is involved, then it is likely to be thicker than K3 so as to give space for the excess heat to come out.

more photo of the camera is out

Wonder if comes with battery grip and how it looks.

Then later releases the Silver Limited Edition......

Look real mean like a P67.

Wahhh very fierce looking :) i hope they have a limited dark green edition...size seems ok still....

The photos of the camera just looks like a modelling prototype, maybe straight out from a 3D printer.
A long way to go before we get to see the real thing, especially since they haven't even decided a name for the camera.
Typical Pentax lateness...

It's just a dummy set. Ricoh is still asking for users' suggestions on what features are wanted/needed in this new camera, I guess we'd be lucky if we really see this camera come out before Christmas. Which might be a good thing, so they can sell some more KS2 before the FF comes out :D
