Not sure any body encountered this problem before. I got a RX100 from a friend. I lent it to another friend. But now the photos he took cannot be seen when connect the SDcard to the computer. However the photos can be seen when the SD card is assess via the RX100. There is a photo DB recovery function on the camera but I dare not try. Any body any clues?

Not sure what my friend had done. Under the DCIM folder, besides the normal folder, he created another two folders. The computer can read the photos in those folders but not the normal/standard folder. However the RX100 can see many photos.

  • How is the SD Card connected to the computer? Is this done using a card reader? Or by connecting the RX100 to a computer with a USB cable? If you're doing this, try setting the USB Connection to Mass Storage: http://docs.esupport.sony.com/dvimag/DSCRX100_guide/en/contents/06/04/08/08.html#l2_usb connect
  • When you try to view the contents of the SD card by double clicking (like you would any other removable drive), do you see the entire folder directory?
  • Have you tried using software like Lightroom to import the images? Remember to check "Include subfolders" to ensure that it will import images from all folders.

From the sony manual, this function sounds like it is for when you are unable to view images on the camera — a different problem from yours.

Maybe you can check with your friend if he manually created those folders, or were they created using the camera. I think the RX100 does have in-camera settings to create new subfolders.

Another thing you can try is to use Sony's PlayMemories Home application (on windows or mac) to try to import the images:

1. Menu - [Recover Image DB] - [Enter]
2. Wait until the camera repair is cpmpleted
