U take pics and see. Blow it up and check for sharpness and details. Some may have back/front focusing probs.

I just sent my 17-40 to Canon for calibration, and I'm not really sure if it has improved much.

Do you see any abnormalities in your photos? If not, why worry?

Not sure about sensor cleaning. Sent my 24-70 for (re)calibration due to back focus problem. Covered under warranty thus free, took 2 days.
