Problem that D7100 user face.

Hi there. As most of the CS members have put in their opinions about the D7100, finally it still depends on you.

Why not rent a unit & take it for a spin. Go take the pictures that you typically shoot and also shoot subjects that may cause moiré. Take the results and analyse it.

I used to drive a D7000, the predecessor of the D7100, it was a love & hate affair. Loved the sharp images & color, disliked the small buffer. It shines with good lenses but shows the shortcomings of bad techniques & lesser lenses.

High MP sensors (DX or FX) demand the best shooting skills and a nice set of sharp glass. The D7100 has the highest MP DX sensor in Nikon's DX line up.

Thanks for sharing. Now unsure to stick with my D90 or get D7100.

I think you will need to see what are the things that the D7100 can do that your D90 cant and if the difference is justifiable in the change? Otherwise, I will save up on the money and get better glass then get a new body. Just my 2 cents.

Since it is on the topic of D7100 problem, not sure if anyone encounters this issue with their D7100.

I have encountered pics not written into the SD card twice. The latest case happened yesterday. About 40 to 50 overs pics weren't captured. I opened a new folder and then the pics were recorded into the second folder. When taking the pics, i geard the shutter sound. But when i tried to review the pics, they didn't appear.

I did google for similar topic but will like to know anyone else encounter this issue. I was thinking if i should send the camera back to Nikon for checking.

Thanks.

Could potentially be a card issue as well. I'd buy new cards and try, and if the problem persists, send to NSC for checking.

These two sound similar:

Will try that during weekend.

you can try this

1) use another card, format it using the function from the camera menu.

2) backup the current card, format it using the same function from the camera menu

if all above fails, might need to send down to NSC.

Not true. The picture of the bird I posted above is shot with a 13 year old lens. No problem resolving on the D800e or the D7100.

There are many many lenses pre-2012 that will perform beautifully on this camera body.

These are the lenses I used on the D7100 with great results:

Sigma 35/1.4
Nikon 16-35/4 VR
Nikon 24-70/2.8
Nikon 70-200/2.8 VR2
Nikon 300/2.8 AF-S ED IF
Nikon TC-20EIII

All the lenses mentioned are pre-2012 except for the Sigma.

DSLR autofocus systems may not be as precise as you think. Manufacturing tolerances often result in subtle mismatches between camera bodies and lenses, resulting in poor autofocus performance. This can cause your images to be softer than they should be. Every maker of hi-end DSLRs acknowledges this by providing auto-focus adjustment capabilities right in their camera’s menu systems. One of my lens,a Sigma 50 F1.4 needs to have AF fine tune adjusted to -15 on my D800 And -10 On my D4 in order to be sharp. The best is to send it to Nikon SC to tune the said lens/ camera combination if you don't know how to perform AF fine tune.

+1. Most decent professionals will AF fine tune all their lenses and camera bodies.
