I'm using the NB-3A from Kang Rinpoche Ball head. I can put a Wimbley side kick on it and mount a EF 500 mm F4 IS L on it with no problem.

Compared to my Arca Swiss Monoball B1, the chinese ball head with teflon coating is a lot smoother. The finishing is just as good as the expensive models. Note that the "A" designation is for the new model with the coating.

As for prices, it's more expensive here. If I recall correctly, the NB-3A is going for RMB1480 (around S$300+) whilst it's going for S$430 (if you exclude the S$125 for the Wimbley P5 plate). So it's about S$100 more to buy in Singapore.

If prices are good, I am considering a NB-2A and a NB-1A too.

Cheers,

Hi all. Those who interested, as long as you can give me an answer by next Wed should be fine, I think. :D So ...

Why not i start a list now to see who is interested in what. And there might be a limit to how many can be brought over at one time. I have to let you guys know first, as like what i had mentioned, this might not be a MO, got limited per order.

Hi freelancer. Thanks for the translation. Save me alot of work. :p Thanks.

Hi benny. Wah!!! You very daring! But you proven it man! Power ballhead. :D Anyway, the price you stated (RMB1480) might be for NB-3 (older version). With the modification to "A", the price is higher. But again, I will try to push down the price. As i am aiming at the NB2-A. Do you think it is better than Velbon P273? My first "want to get" ballhead.

Anyway, still waiting for the lobang provider's reply. Thanks.

I'm interested to get lens plate. Are kangrinpoche plates good? Do they have lens specific plate?

How much is a generic lens plate with length of about 7cm?

P10 and P20 are $125 from CP...not sure about PL70..
Not sure whether there's stock for markins plate at the moment..call CP u to check

Markins PL 70 should be around S$70 from east gear?

The generic Kang Rinpoche plates are around S$40 each. They also have specialised plates. Check their website. I wouldn't mind picking up a few if available.

Cheers,

Based on the images of the Kangrinpoche camera/lens plates, I am hesitant somewhat as they do not seem to be as well designed as RRS, Kirk or Wimberley plates. You may do well to do some research on your own before deciding whether the savins in $$$ is worth it.

fyi, heard that the Markins dovetails are too shallow and not up to the full Arca Swiss specs. YMMV :)

When I was deciding over the Markins M10 and the Kang RinPoche NB-1, Steven from CP told me that many users preferred the kang rinpoche to the markins M10 though it was slightly bigger but could hold 46kg. Currently using it, no regrets getting it

I have a Markins plate, and it can be gripped rock solid by the QR clamp on a friend's Kirk ballhead. Tiny little thing, but no issues with twisting, etc ... but I did put some gaffer tape on the camera's base to both protect it and give the plate more grip.

Where did you hear about the issue with the dovetails ? Interested to know more, haven't seen what the actual specs for the Arca-Swiss "standard" are.

Perhaps that's why CP don't sell the Kang Rinpoche plates, only Wimberley ones.

In any case, the plate that I dislike most is the Original Arca Swiss ones. Ill designed. Wimberley's designs are much better.

http://www.reallyrightstuff.com/clamps/

And from a few other photographers expressing some concerns with the Markins camera plate before seeing the post at the above web site :D

Ah, yes, I saw that before ... was considering an RRS ballhead with the lever-operated clamp (until I calculated how much it would cost to get it all the way here !). And what they said tallied with my experience ... the Kirk clamp that I tried is, of course, operated by a screw knob.

Still, I don't know if anyone has published an actual Arca-Swiss "standard" for the plate ... I think RRS's comment is based on testing the Markins plate on their clamps. And the comment about Arca-Swiss plates for monorail cameras is amusing ... even Arca-Swiss have different specs for their own stuff :bsmilie:
