I like the light weight and convinience, but my trip do need a stable
platform occassionally. Are there any simple/easy mechanisms which
can convert a monopod into tripod?

I've tried a Manfrotto monopod with 3 small legs at the end which you can extend them to become a tripod. But not very steady leh.

I'm shooting indoor most of the time. Tripods take out too much room in my small home studio. I am tempted to get a monopod and put the end of it in a Milo tin and pour cement into it for stability.

Hmm.. if your camera is not too heavy, how about trying lighting stands?

I have found a couple of them, it looks very neat, but I wonder where the small legs are stored.
