Camera selecting for newbie

If you're tight on budget , then a 50mm prime lens will do beginner magic .
If you're a little loose on budget , then get a 18-135mm .
If you're better when it comes money , then get a 18-200mm lens . It has a wide zoom range . Suitable for most types of photography from wide-angle scenic shots to zoomed-closeup shots . This lens is also ideal for travelling .

Lens selection depends on what and where you be shooting often. Portraits? Landscape? Travel?
For a start, and for a good deal, get the camera body with a wide range kit lens. Keep note of what focal length you shoot most often. After that you will know what lens suit you best,and from there you can sell the lens and buy suitable ones. If you are happy withthe initial kit lens, than good as you can spend your time shooting instead of buying and selling all the time

Refer to the Price guides in CS and give stores a call for prices.For lens,it depends on you.There are lots of lenses from wide-angle(8mm)to telephoto(800mm)

Start with a basic all-in-one zoom e.g. 18-135 or 18-200, but it its -135 or -200 make sure got IS, if not quite useless unless its bright afternoon sun. This is esp impt if youre new shooter and not used to handholding steadily.
After that you might wanna go for a more specialised lens, like a fast prime (e.g. 50 1.8), a fast tele (70-200 2.8) or a ultra wide (12-24)

18-200 is a good range to start with follow by a fast 50 prime.. Add on a gd external flash..

If you have sufficient budget--> Great Combo set 50D + 17-55mm f2.8 IS = ~$3.3K (new set) :thumbsup:
If you like canon just get the kit lens. Its light and cheap and nice and fun to learn with. Don't bother getting any other lens based on advice. If you shoot enough, you will know what you want in the lens. Accessories can add on later
Do consider the other brands like Nikon, Pentax, Olympus, Sony etc. I shoot canon but the other brands all make nice cameras

I suggest reading the newbie forum before you hit the button "Submit", there are similar questions 2x per day and the answers sre still the same regardless of camera brand or model. The camera comes with a kit lens. Unless you have sufficient knowledge about lenses I can't see any reason not using this kit lens. It's a universal lens suiting many situations. Get the next lenses once you know what you need and why you need it. Safe the $ for other necessary equipment.

50D is a camera, not a computer. Why do you think it will be sold cheaper on a computer fair? Best deals are still made in the local camera shops. Check the price guide section, call the shops, get e-quotes (binding for 7 days). Do stay away from all freebies or additional stuffs that might be offered (filters, tripod etc). Get the accessories once you know what and why to get.

i think the best lens you should get is the kit lens 18-55mm.
it is probably the safest lens to get.
1. wide angle enough for landscape
2. and long enough for portrait
3. f3.5-5.6 gives you a chance to understand the limitations of a non-constant aperture
4. cheap so you dont lose much when you decide to sell your lens later

If you know what you like to shoot , try getting what you require right from the start instead of having to change later .... this is best scenario and if you have the budget
