i was swayed by the sales also in Cathay but was amazed on the wonders of its built-in Stabilizer,
tested on D80kit and A200 and test shoot, found out Nikon with VR lens is quite a problem for me...
while i tested with A200 with the Stabilizer switch on, i've no issues with minor handshake
btw, for 1399 you get Alpha body with stabilizer + 18-70 lens and 70-300mm lens,
i believe you cannot get such offer in any other brands
imagine i initially wanted to bank into D80kit with 18-200 VR... *SWEAT*

It's looks really affordable... a lot of stuff you can get with the a200 without digging deep, especially, that you're technically getting two VR/IS lenses with the package, and speedy AF and the other all round improvements... the a200 is a strong contender, I say, it's quite able to match up to the performance of the D80 in many areas, and it'd hold itself and perform well in a lot of shoot situations.
Anyway, the older AF minolta lenses are compatible so it's not too expensive to delve into, bros like dewakarma's bringing in minolta lenses from overseas rather frequently, you can check it out with him.
True, and it's important to hone on techniques, and not get lost in the equipment... errr... too much.
Well, just happens that almost all my current photos were taken with the G... So just mention lo... hehe, in case the visitors were wondering... hehe, at the same time, spread some G virus... muhahaha... =D
Anyways, those are practically the only two lens I have, not counting another two, which together with another camera body, forms my backup equipment setup:
a700 + 2 G lenses (28-200mm coverage), then a100 + 2 lenses (18-210mm coverage, kit+beercan)
I hadn't gone through many lenses in my photographic journey (luckily). Earlier on, I was testing the waters and getting used to the mount, and photography itself in general, then finding out which area I wanted to specialise in. Then at some point if there's the extra financial capability and I know that I'm getting serious in shooting, I decided to settle on one class of premium lenses and keep to that line, so I can have some consistency in image rendition.
My thinking cum modus operandi then was, "If I am serious about it, I should find out my requirements, then just go for the best the brand has to offer and stick with it." People'd tend to lose money from equipment depreciation (lose some or a lot, or even make money, but who knows...) when they sell the lenses in the process of moving up the equipment ladder.
Probably will stick with just 2 G lens combo, I hope... *whistles*
Haha, probably true, but right now, I'm happy with the camera bodies sony has to offer, but not sure, if the FF comes out and it's cheap enough, I might buy it.

juz curious to ask the A200 users. Is ur A200 LCD screen abit blueish green? like the pic below.

That's anti-reflective coating. Makes it MUCH easier to use in daylight. It will not affect the color cast from the LCD once the LCD is switched on.

I remember towards the end of last year, I was out with the gang every weekend! Some week nights as well!
So be warned... buy alpha and you will be very badly poisoned by us here! haha!
