    EOS-M Mirrorless Digital Camera with EF-M 22mm f/2 STM Lens - US299

Buying local works for Singapore, but US's twisted tax laws is another story. I was in New York last month and I visited B&H's store there. Had this deal been available then, I would have paid US$299 + NY sales tax (about 8-9% I think). But now I am in Seattle, about 5000km away, I only pay...

    OFFICIAL CANON EOS100D Discussion

Advantage of the EOS M is that it can actually fit in my pocket. The best camera is the camera you carry with you. Compact Camera Meter

Which filter and brand do you use for your Tamron 17-50?

Not true. Front element can be replaced at a fraction of the cost of a whole new lens.

    Canon EF 40mm F2.8 STM

For lenses with effective largest aperture of f/8. Most lenses are fine if you don't use teleconverter with them.

Does Lemon Law covers grey units?

After 12 (or 15) months, ALL cameras 'turn grey'. Speaking as a Canon user, even if you buy 'officially sanctioned' Canon cameras, after the warranty period ends, Canon will treat it no differently than a grey market unit. My 5D was a US market camera. When I was in Singapore, I brought it into...

Does Lemon Law covers grey units?

I also don't understand some people's hostility towards parallel importers. They are actually doing us, the consumers, a favour. Without them, the official channel will sell products at even higher prices because the parallel importers would not be there to provide some competition.

Newbie exploring out of Auto Mode

I think we are confusing the newbies by telling them all these M and P modes. Over 90% of the time, I just use Av mode. First determine what aperture you want to use, dial to that aperture and set the ISO to 100 (or whatever the base ISO of your camera is). Half press the shutter, look at the...

    Canon EF 40mm F2.8 STM

Ring USM FTW! No more non-Ring USM lenses for me (though I will consider those with STM).

    Canon EF 40mm F2.8 STM

Some lenses are harder to rotate, some seem looser, at least that's the case with the 4 lenses I have. I won't worry too much about it. As for FTM, all my lenses have FTM and they don't need half press shutter button, so it differs. FTM is only for one-shot mode.

    Canon EF 40mm F2.8 STM

I bought it in July, took it with me to Toronto and shot about 10 pics before selling it to my co-worker (I actually lent it to her in Toronto, but forgot to take it back from her. Since she lives in Las Vegas and I live in Seattle, it was a hassle to get it shipped back to me, so I offered to...

    How to increase background blur?

Subject to the MFD of the lens, of course.

Reflections on the 5D Mark III: What worked (really well) and what sucked

Your statements imply that the nature of events and weddings have changed. I highly doubt that. Had Canon as a company collapsed before the 5D3 was released, many event and wedding photographers would just continue to use their 5D2s to shoot the events and weddings. The cameras themselves...

40mm f/2.8 is now available in SG for sale (at cathay photo today saw it..)

I am counting on this lens to give my subjects the impression that I have a 'lousy' camera that seems non intimidating, so they will loosen up and let me take more natural photos of them. When I am out and about with my 70-200 II, people around me would either tense up because I was holding a...
