D810 - OFFICIAL THREAD

Hmmmm..... the expended ISO range on the low end is probably the only thing which interests me. However, will that make that much of a difference to switch from the D800e. Really don't know.

It would not make a big different for sure. But to justify to sell off the D800E and top up another $1k plus for D810 is up to you.

I thought the D810 will benefit videographers more.

videographer will be looking at real video cam rather then shooting through an SLR.

All these video thing I never even bother when I'm looking at purchasing a Pro-DSLR

Really It has a lot to offer many if you read the details.... and more resolution than the D800E... with claimed less Moire.

Maybe DEC I'll get one as a second body. :)

Nikon came into the video game too late, when all their competitors, except Canon, are already throwing out 4K cameras at lesser cost.

actually base on the spec and whatever review I seem so far, the D810 is like a correction to all the mistakes found in D800/E plus some enhancement.

That why i say it is not a breakthrough.

So if you know how to handle and prevent the error from surfacing in your D800/E, you won't see much of a different from D800/E with D810.

Thus whatever you can produce in D810 it can also be done in D800 just that those enhanced feature in D810 will make it much easier for you compare to using D800/E

Well all these are talk if you own D800/E and looking at upgrade. And end of day you decide if the upgrade is worth it.

But Dfive you are look at buying a spare so it does not make any different to you.

For me, the D810 will be a big improvement for me cause I'm coming from D3 and I need camera like D810 for landscaping tapping on the great dynamic range tone while I hardly need any speed or action that why D4/s is putting me off. While D800/E have quite a few error that I'm also putting off and waiting for Nikon to finish their piloting testing and produce a correction version.

Hi Bro,
You keep mentioning the error and flaws in D800/E..may i know which error or flaw are you referring to that was fixed in D810?

Hi All,
wah...I've just scanned the BnS..there are about 8 D800/E in the first page alone. Need to dump and upgrade so urgently meh? :):dunno:

If you bother to go google around and read review the flaw of D800/E is easy there for you to pick up.

For example

4 fps not enough for those who need 5fps when doing Bracketing

mirror vibration

no unlimited continuous shooting which limit at 100-frame limit for us who shoot star trail

moire which D810 claim to reduce it but yet to confirm

Poor LCD for Live view which is grainy and not very helpful for manual fine focusing while opening up to maximum aperture helps, but only on lenses that don't exhibit focus shift as a function of aperture

handling issue like mode button and record button is too close which result in you pressing the record button too often
metering mode selector switch which is together with the AE-L/AF-L and AF-ON controls is a bad move.

but all in all if your requirement does not need all these or you can make do with it, like I say D800/E is not much diff from D810.

Taken from a quote from dpreview http://www.dpreview.com/previews/nikon-d810/6

"If the D810 is unexciting, it's because it doesn't represent a great leap forward. The D800 and D800E set a high bar for 'wow!' simply because of their (at the time) unmatched pixel count. The D810 is a solid, quiet consolidation of the basic concept and a better product overall than either of the two models that it replaces. Should you sell your D800 or D800E and buy a D810? Probably not. But if you were on the fence about upgrading from a D700 or DX-format Nikon DSLR the D810 is a more appealing camera than its predecessors, and a stronger opponent to Canon's EOS 5D Mark III - especially when it comes to autofocus."

I always remind myself. If I can sell my camera in anticipation of the newer one, which is not on the market yet, I probably don't need a camera.

these are "technology chaser" not photographer... ;)

Good to see that Nikon is pushing out new products, but I feel that the D810 is only an incremental upgrade at best. Plus, I'm really happy with my D800E's performance. Comparisons between the two would be interesting, but I doubt the D810's image quality would be head-and-shoulders over the D800/E's.

fully agree

A 36mp camera can be very unforgiving and requires good camera handling knowledge to operate. If not, "flaws" will show. That same lacking in knowledge will somehow mislead the uninitiated into believing that the camera is at fault.
