Canon 550D VS Nikon 3100

wow, i see i see lol ... i really never heard that brand before lol... i guess i still prefer Canon ba... hahaz.... Is there any shop can pay using credit card installment without interest ? So far i ask most of the shops need to charge 3% for the installment

Cathay Photo gives 0% but at a higher price.

In my opinion, not enough money, don't purchase.

One time spend with cash. feel the pain at one go

oh... i see i see. I think take up this hobby is really painful for the pocket.. yet I dun have a chance but falling in lol...:bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

then i suggest you shall get a cheap $400-500 Canon 350D or Nikon D40 with kit lens to shoot first..

BUT, after spending $1.5-2k on a camera. Chances are slim if you were to quit from this hobby...

I would suggest you to do your research and not fall prey to brand prejudice.
Especially when you seem to be constrained by budget, the other brands do offer a greater 'bang-for-your-buck' quotient. Advise you to at least consider thoroughly. Don't dismiss them so quickly...

The first Japanese SLR manufacturer is this one :

The price and performance of the Kr is hard to beat.

If you are concerned about brand, then yes, just get the Canon or Nikon.
If you are interested in the photos, do look around all the brands and do a favor for yourself
by getting the best camera for the buck.

Anyway, you can always buy from Best or Harvey Norman for interest free credit card purchases. They are not the cheapest of course.

I think TS is not interested la.

He is not interested to know that even the slightly Pentax K-x (the model from last year) is already using the same sensor as D90 and D300s. And it produces pictures with IQ at the same level to those cameras.

He is also not interested that the Pentax K-x is now only selling with a 18-55 kit lens at $699. He is also not interested that it comes with in-body IS.

He only cares about brand. So let him be.

My suggestion, as always is to go down to the store and try out those cameras, be it Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Pentax, Sony whatever, and see if you like their feels and interface.

As for which camera takes the best pictures are always open to lots of arguement. Canon lover would vote for Canon, Nikon would vote for Nikon, Sony would vote for sony and so on and so for.

There really is no need to launch into an arguement on who's camera is better than whose. We are all photography lover, and we love our cameras, so lets leave it be.

Another "What necklace to buy thread?" :bsmilie:

I just checked the D3100 for my friend last week, the price with kit lens 18-55 VR is only $835. If Body only is $750 plus 18-105VR $420 = $1170.00
The price of D3100 is definitely not same as Canon 550D. It's much more expensive. With $1200 suggest you buy D3100 plus 18-105VR.

Don't think it is worth it to buy the 18-105 new on its own. When you can get an almost new one in BnS for around $300-330.

Cathay Photo & Alan Photo do have installment by credit card. The installment is interest free but not all credit cards. DBS credit card is acceptable, the rest I don't know. You can call Alan Photo at 63360922 or Cathay Photo at 63374742.

Bro, just go to the shops and test out those cameras that u have shortlisted and see which one you like better in term of user interface and image quality. Actually I think you can't go wrong with either camera, except that 550D is seriously more expensive and I think it is more than S$1200 (I might be wrong though). Only get the camera that you feel good with.

Oh... btw... I am using a 40D and 1000d at present and had tried my hands on a D700s and D90 before... I love all of them!

True. You don't have to know all the brands to make a decision. You won't go wrong with either Canon 550D or Nikon D3100. :)

:bsmilie::bsmilie: used to it already rite?

i don't mind people not hearing about the brand before

it's just a bit sad when people just dismiss it, though... not that i really mind (because as you say, i'm use to it), but it's just quite interesting to me how people would not even put up a suggestion for consideration without giving a reason, save "have not heard about it".

i mean, we're not even talking about some Aplie (china ripoff of Apple, perhaps) or Suny (china ripoff of Sony, perhaps). Pentax is an established brand, that has been around for quite some time, since the film slr days. but because of the lack of advertisement (and perhaps, user base and widespread general ignorance of newcomers)... it is just... dismissed. :bsmilie:

and... that is what makes me sad. that we (i'm talking about singaporean photographers, collectively) have become a bunch of sheep who are unable to consider options, but only what is fed to us via widespread advertisement/media/word of mouth.

back in 2006, i had never heard about pentax either.
