If the Oly Ep1 is that good, ask yourself why someone would let go of it after 2 months.
I know a few others who have let go of theirs after they have gotten over the initial euphoria...

Creampuff, astute observation :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

2/3 of the price an EP-1?

well, mind to share wat is the selling price for EP1 and Kx at SG?
I get quoted Kx at RM2500 while EP1 standard kit is RM2699.

As for pana,no IS is terrible
Oly,no flash

so i didn't choose pana due to the fact of lacking a built in IS

And frankly,i have a fuji f100d which serve me quite well, the only draw back is I cannot do manual setting for shutter and apperture.

The EP1 with 17mm pancake lens is about $1400+ while the Kx is around $950.
(The EP2 is a few hundred dollars more). If you consider the EP1 with kit zoom lens, I think its about $1200+ presently. (Probably can get lower at some of the specialty shops). With the kit lens in, its the same as buying the kx with lesser features. But if we are getting it as a second grab and go camera to replace our PnS, the EP1/GF1 with pancake lens would be good.

2 of my colleages sold their EP1 after 1-2 months to get the GF1. They liked the more contemporary design and red colour plus the built in flash. But the key factor was they found the IQ not as good as the GF1. In anycase, to each his own.
One thing is if you upgrade from an PnS , its always easier to adapt. If you own a DLSR, then unfair comparisons are inevitable because both the EP1 and GF1 are priced above entry level DSLR. They should have been priced AT or BELOW entry DSLR prices then expectations would be pegged to PnS comparisons, i.e. vs Fuji F200EXR and Panasonic LX3. :)

If you want a GF1 or EP1, then as good as sticking with a good compact cam w/ Av, Tv, M modes. Their only advantages is size and 'cool' looks (Britney Spears holding an EP1 ;p )
If you think about it. You want the small size... ok... but then you go get those largish lenses to add on this small camera so it defeats the original purpose. Not to mention the largish camera bag/s to hold the lenses. ... Basically... back to square one of a DSLR but w/ the noisier high ISO. MHO, the GF1/EP1 are good only if you stick to small lenses from the original manufacturer or RF lenses.

A DSLR will not distract you from touring with your spouse/gf, etc. This has to do with personal priority not larger toy ;) I could still be totally engrossed with taking photos with a new compact cam vs keeping my wife company on a tour if my piority is not set straight. Right?

i wonder why they sell off their ep1 so fast too, but they always said that they wan dslr and the OVF,

headache headache

some users also let go their kx after a few days or weeks. It all boils down to personal preference.

No headache lah... you're confusing yourself mah. Just see kx - if you like the built, handling, and results. Buy it. End of story. And don't get any new lenses until you have experimented with your kit lens. Nothing complicated. :bsmilie:

i read the dpreview on the comparison of both kx and k7,i dun think i will opt for k7 given the price tag is far above my budget.
i have the intention to buy a dslr today, but suddenly put on hold. i asked whether it is a hassle to bring a bulk gear out is an issue or not due to the factor of dslr might bring my attention away while i tour mate is so much enjoying the beautiful (some might agree, but not all). so i have now eliminate k20d from my list but put two others in which are ep-1/2 and gf1

just curious, are these model really small if compare to kx?

While on holiday with my friends, I found that because I'm trying to look for objects of interest, angles, composition, etc, I enjoy the sights and sceneries more than them. The rest of them just hurry from place to place, take the usual tourist snapshot in front of places of interest and then scoot off.

they just follow the crowd to take picture
unlike us,will observe here and there try here and there

so,i will be better to get a hands on for the Kx,and worry that i cannot find black color as ppl always said that, colorful material is not firm(at least by looking)

in fact,i hold the k20d last week, the feel is very solid and sturdy, when the sales rep mount the legacy prime lens of 40mm ltd edition,oh god such a beauty

Now you understand the beauty of getting a monster of a camera for photography. Not for everybody because some will find the weight cumbersome but the solid construction and the build quality is superb.

After you get your dslr or 4/3rd camera - live with it for a while. You'll soon realize that a camera body is just the beginning and plugging different lenses will yield different results.

Lastly, get a camera to please yourself. Not because others say this is good, or that is revolutionary. I mean look at me, a K10D and i'm mighty pleased. Opinions matter, in the end... you have to weigh everything and get what's best for you. While you're end it, google for "problems with" + camera model - to get a balanced view of what you're going to buy ;)

I do sense a new thread coming up on my mind. There's way too many KX vs K7 or K20 vs K7 or this lens vs that lens. Not that there's anything wrong but much of it boils down to knowing what you want - coz eventually, everybody have to make their own choices on their gear. Do i make any sense???

Yes and No, there are 3 groups of camera users; 1. Interested in taking good photos, don't really care about hardware. 2. Interested in latest spec of camera, change cameras like drinking water.. :bsmilie: 3. Both of the above 2 points... So depends on which groups you are in...:bsmilie:

:bsmilie: Group 1 - I hope, once I get the LBA out of the way.

I've seen some people with high end gears but they remain sadly neglected in the dry cab - not really wise idea because with dslr. The value goes down pretty fast as technology improves. I mean... why waste the money, invest in watches or vintage lenses which will go up in price. That, i don't understand.

On second thought, Thank Goodness for such people because they hold on to lenses and sell them cheap later on. Good for poor students and the hard-up photogs in group one. :bsmilie: But I'm sure pentaxians are not like that... (better hide before someone :complain: me)

I should be in Gp 3. Now settled for Kx but waiting for the K7 features to be ported over to the Kx replacement (likely call K2 if they continue to follow the historical nomenclature chronology) when the K7 replacement is in. :) Or switching back to K7 when the price drop to kx current price. ;)

Seriously I don't mind getting an EP1 with pancake lens to replace my F200EXR for situations when I really need to travel light but still need the DSLR performance but the price is the stumbling block now. I can't have my "lite" camera cost so much more than my "primary full-functioned camera" :bsmilie:

airconvent, at this i should be waiting for the DLX. Hahahahahaha... :bsmilie:

you will also notice and observe much more.

after a while, you realise that travelling can be much more than just doing it the typical singaporean style, which is to:

eat, shop and then take a picture in front of the places to make sure that they have records that they have been there.

what of sitting in a parisian cafe for a lazy afternoon? what of looking at people going about their lives.. what of going out of the usual tourist sights, getting lost in the outskirts, experiencing something that is harder to get to than usual and requiring more research?

i think everyone's entitled to their own way of travel, i guess.. but i have never enjoyed travelling this much.. ever. and i think most people who are genuinely interested in photography will not just appreciate the beauty, see and find it.. but also remember it somehow.. not just through their pictures. :)

wow,i am so glad that CS is very serious in sharing. IMHO, this is the 1st forum that I joined with so many good feedback and w/o biased opinion.

by the way, could anyone tell me, how to choose lens type? for eg

10-24mm for what type of photo
40mm da ltd for?

pretty noob here, becoz i only think that the bigger the apperture is,the better blurish background i will be able to get

p/s: is 40mm da ltd edition price at Rm1440 a good buy? how much would it be in SG?

OK, this is for educational purposes so that you can make better choices. Not that I'm recommending you to go nuts on getting lenses.

Like all the seniors have said, go get an dslr - use it, take photos, see the limitations of your lenses before buying more lenses. I'm pretty serious about this, you're one person i don't like poisoning. :bsmilie:

Not yet, anyways... heh heh heh...
