Hi everyone,

About a month ago I sold my 50D set coz getting married. :)
But figured can't last without a cam.
I'm choosing between the LX3 and the Digilux 2.
I understand the Digilux 2 is a bit old...but I love its looks and dreaming of the Red dot. :)
And I presume that it can still take a "more than" decent photos.

LX3, I guess I need not explain coz we all know its a good compact cam.

I'm not bothered already by the digilux's size btw.

What's your take on this? Digilux owners...would value your input.
Looking forward to your responses...

Cheers,

Mannix

congrats on getting married=)

anyway, i own a dlux 4, got it bout' 2mths ago.
its almost exactly the same as lx3 sans the look and price. its bout' $400 more compared to lx3.

but if u're comparing between dlux 2 and lx3, i'd say go for the lx3 coz of image quality, im sure i don't need to say but u should see the pics that the lx3 (dlux4) can come up with.
If u don't mind spending a little more for cosmetic and brand, i'd say dlux 4 is killer. hehehe

all above are just my personal opinion and i am by no means a pro photographer. just my 2cents.

gd luck with whichever cam u're gona get. =)

The D2 is a great cam when you have lots of light. The lens is great but not the 'internals'. Noise control is pretty bad but with good lighting ... it's awesome. The LX3 and D2 are two different beasts right? One is so compact and the other is so chunky. I love the controls on the D2 though.

Thanks for the 2 responses...keep them coming guys!
Yup the digilux caught my eye coz of its style. upon checking out some sites...i must say the lx3 takes much much crisp shots but the digilux 2 ain't bad at all too. :)

If you're looking at other options, Dpreview has done a prosumer head to head test with a bunch of cameras (including the lx3)

BTW, can are you ok with the focal range of the lx3 as it's a bit short?

The lens of the Digilux 2 is optically much better than that of the LX3/D-Lux 4. The lens of the LX3/D-Lux 4 is prone to purple fringing and other chromatic aberrations which are removed on-the-fly by the jpeg engine of the camera. However such optical flaws if present are not removed when shooting in RAW making these (LX3/D-Lux 4) cameras probably the only RAW-capable cameras ever marketed that produce better image quality when shot in jpeg mode than in RAW. No such problems with the Leica Digilux 2 or Panasonic LC1. :dunno:

Thank you for that information...
I somehow noticed that too on sample photos of the LX3/Dlux-4.

I would agree that the Digilux is optically on the advantage...

Still confused on what to get... :(
I'm itchy to get a cam today...or should I wait for the GSS? Do you guys think there might be better offers?

Appreciate your effort to write your responses.

Is it still possible to get the Digilux 2 new? If not, there is no benefit in waiting for GSS. If yes, how much? I think a brand new Digilux 2 might be frightening expensive.

If you do get the LX3/D-Lux 4, shoot only jpeg, print small and do not view the image at 100% resolution on the monitor... otherwise you might be disappointed if you are a stickler for image quality and like to pixel-peep. ;)

bnew no more... unfortunately the fellow member selling the digilux 2 is not replying. :(

i think safest to go for the LX3... Might be a good handy cam to carry to my wedding and honeymoon on July! :)

too bad...will miss out on the retro look of Digilux 2!

Then look for the LC1 loh... still very retro what ! Cheaper too. ;)
