Hi sbs99 i think ur pic are not the worse one i seen. I've seen situation whereby the whole platform at JE is packed, yes both sides... at least ur pics there are some empty spaces... it's really horrible. the whole stn is like a MRT train already...

yup...these were taken like starting of the peak crowd...i was trying to beat the crowd too, just impromptu shots. That's why i mentioned someone else could have caught the worse off crowds...lol. Somebody should shoot a video to show how "enthuastic" the crowd will be when they hear within earshot, the trains come rumbling in. :bsmilie:

btw, do you know that every buses that ply the roads have a maximum number of seated and standing passengers?

I think the issue isn't that the bus refused to stop (the driver probably did the right thing). The issue is that there're still insufficient buses to service the commuters, despite very frequent fee adjustments upwards.

True! Not long ago, I waited 12mins for a train in the morning, and I was almost late for class, thanks to their efficiency.

europe has a lot of magic buses though, i think it is the norm to just do that. yes, i think it is not fair to really compare london directly - they are stuck in a rut because they cannot close the entire tube down to revamp it, neither do they have the politicians to care about the correct issues..

i went to canary wharf twice to take sunset a while back, the nice thing is that the people here arrange themselves and queue up to enter the train.. not just one big free for all mass whacking to see who can squeeze the fastest. so swee swee both times wait for maybe 2 trains then can go in already. i think that is something we can learn from them as well?

i bet that most do not follow such rules. almost every time, the bus is packed to the brim. when accidents happened, this could pose some serious consequences.

whether the exit door is right at the end or in the middle, it doesn't matter if the maximum number of allowed standees is followed. passengers can easily move in and out of the bus without having to push and shove.

I think I have mentioned this last year. It's correct. No matter how you squeeze, there is a limit, and there will always be some people left at the bus-stop fuming mad. Humans are not cottons, you know. Simple answer, get more buses la. Wa, jialat man...if Singapore cannot even solve this...

i dun think anyone sane would be spending so much time to keep track of the train timings.
Hired people by authorities to keep track , aren't "eligible" in my opinion.

if the trains are frequent enough, people will feel it.

It has come to a point where any extra train trips won't make any difference to passengers.

Squeezing into a jammed packed train versus squeezing into a super-jammed packed train has not much discernible difference.

The crowd is here to stay.

the place i would always change trains on my way home and to work, that was in the past. Photos are impromptu shots...taken with hp cam if i can remember or small digital compact.

Other places would be Boon Lay, clementi stn... woodlands still ok, these i got no photos, not really bad till i wanna take shots i guess...haha. Maybe there are pretty worse cases in raffles place or city hall or east side, but i have not experienced (or wouldnt want to), it seems the ones at jurong east are not so forgiving as they are competing to get on with the other next to them, and the ones on the other side of the station. :bsmilie:

Boon Lay is ultimate. Have you ever seen two trains arriving at almost the same time and the entire platform is packed with people wanting to take the escalator down while the people who are going to go up cannot go up and got jammed around the control station? This problem has been solved by controlling the arrival times, but still...too many people~

I was rather excited when they announce that they will be adding more trains to the "peak" period. thus i assume that the peak will be like bus lane timings... 730-930am, 430-7pm somewhere there la... I think i heard the news mention that "some" will be for the lunch but all meh??

As far as i am concern, after the "added" trains, i wun be squeezed to the door at least have some standing room. but it seems that it has become worse. last time in the morn trains come like every 2mins. now i see 4mins and ya imagine the crowd...

If my memory doesn't fail me, I do remember in a newspaper article, it mentioned that there are more drivers purposely chose not to drive, but to take public transport in order to save fuel cost and to beat the jam. That could be the possible reason why, even though the train frequency has "increased", but the situation doesn't improve... :think:

i think it's 700 more trips and not 700 more trains physically.

I suspect the crowd could actually be an increase of ppl who are actually trying to go public instead of driving with the recent spate of fuel price hikes. This would have easily overwhelmed the extra trips scheduled.

Anyway, 700 trips per week is easy to work out, I can't find any actual timings so I'll base them on my assumptions from what i can gather here:
based on 5 work days,
stated "peak periods" so i assume 7-10am and 5-7pm (5hours) and >50% during lunch (12-2pm)

Assume 400 trips (400/700 >50%) are for lunch, that leaves 300 for the morning/evening rush hours
Assume morning and evening trains are evenly distributed across the 5hrs -> 300trips/week = 60trips per day (5hr peak period) = 12 trips per hour or 1 additional trip every 5 mins.

"The added services will also mean that the trains will arrive within five minutes or less if the passenger loads are within 1,000 and 1,200 passengers."

If we take morning peak hours to be 7-9am (1 hr less) it will be 1 additional trip every 4mins.
I would say mine is a pretty close guess.
