Ext Hdd w/ card reading capibility + LensPen

Dunno which brand is good and how to choose. Mainly a self powered hdd which able to read CF and sd card. hoping to buy at IT show if there is.

size wise.. erm.. anything more than 60GB?

Went IT show today. saw some china brand lenspen. but i dunno is it good, thus didn't buy. is there a gd brand or trustworthy lenspen to buy? any particular model or brand?

I'm not sure if there is an external HDD with card reading capabilities. I bought my 2nd HDD from Maxtor at the IT show.4th floor. Mine is a 160GB retailing at $139. There is an 80GB version. Maxtor is reliable and has a back-up program in case your computer crashes.

Yes, there is "such" function hard disk. The one I bought is call DigiMate III. I have tried to put in a 100GB 2.5" HD inside but cannot format. In the end, I have to spent extra $ to get a 40GB HD and put inside. It's cheaper if I bought it as a package.

According to my friend, mine transfer rate is very slow. 1GB SD card takes about 20 - 30 mins (forgotten what is the actually time).

Some models can even view the photos on your card and some models can even select the files to be transfer into the harddisk.

This DigiMate III has only one function, which is to transfer ALL the data from the card to the hard disk.

i bought a 2.5" ovation ext hard drive with card reader 160gb 5400rpm/8mb cache @ $159, but lcd only show status, not photos.
5yrs wrty for hdd, 1st 3 yrs 1-1 exchange
free gift : system mechanic software

p.s. : jus tried the stuffs realised there is no manual in box, no on-line info also, got to figure out how to use. n the free software cannot install at all.... ;(

"lenspen" is a canadian brand.
"lens pen" perhaps refer to something similar.
in my opinion, stick to the original and dun yield to bootlegs, especially since you ain't saving much at all. lenspens is affordable and last a long time.

there is a whole list of brands here.

they are portable storage or simply a 2.5" hdd casing, coupled with card readers. some have a viewer for picture, which may enhance viewing features as well as encourage assurance of transfer, but none is better than a view of all the thumbnails in a window on a small laptop. some recognise raw file and display them, some dun. some have additional media playing ability (e.g. mp3, video), but most of us prefer the cheaper and basic photographic support.

those without viewer: Hk's digimate, Korea's fotomore and nexto, sg/china's compactdrive
recommend korean's brand.

those with viewer: epson, Taiwan's vosonic
recommend epson if you have the dough, otherwise most use vosonic.

nexto and compactdrive are probably the fastest around, but the case alone is about S$200 and no pic display LCD, newer model with those LCD cost much more... :embrass:

If lucky you may find some brandless case that can do such function but without pic display LCD at probably $30+. digimate is one of the cheaper option that offer basic transfer function but they are extremely slow (both in card>HDD transfer and also USB2.0 connection to PC) and their default battery are pretty much weak.

How about the Creative Zen Vision W? It has a CF card slot for you to back up your CF. You can use it to watch movies and listen to MP3 too. Max size is only 60GB though, but should be more than enough for any short trip. Anybody using it know how fast it takes to transfer 1GB from CF to Zen Vision W? I'm quite interested due to its versatility.
