Sports Hub: That horse-shoe shaped stadium

there seems to be always a hate for new things. from the sociological point of view, that's pretty normal in every society.

horse-shoe shaped stadiums, or probably now also known as toilet bowl cover, is not new a design. this kind of shape is particularly popular for stadiums built for american football (rugby.) however the proposal stated that the shape is designed with consideration for ventilation and view (whether they are that important depends on how the judging panel prioritizes, one also needs to see detailed report to know if it really works)

for now, just have to wait and see the other proposals.

Afghan girl will have a field day then, she always wears goggles! :bsmilie:

Not really.

I was quite surprised by the proposal.
Imagine the field can be filled up with water...and become a water sports stadium.

Quite innovative.
Next time national day parade...we can even have Navy submarine and ships sailed in
and make some stunts! :bsmilie:

I think i will give a  for this innovative proposal.
Try not to shoot down any creative idea...

Probably the aesthetic of the stadium can be improved.
But
then again...probably the limited budget...the architects have to work around the constraints
and yet functional.
Tough call.

Overall, i think it is cool.
Never seen or heard any countries have stadiums that can cater for field games and water sports.

 :p

Quote from the article at CNA : " No details were given, but according to some estimates, the stadium will cost $600 million. ".

What's with the bloody obsession about S$600million? The Esplanade cost us taxpayers that much too. :dunno:

I agree that there is innovation with the stadium design and I would support innovation. But with an estimated budget of S$600 million, I would really regard that as "limited budget". Just have to use the money wisely...

"what a waste of $$!!" "What a waste of $$!!"

"and the design's a load of rubbish!!" "And the Design's a load of rubbish!!"

Waste of money? Hmm... Lets see...

Demolish the Durian Shells since according to most, we are too pragmatic a nation state to let the Arts flourish. Waste of money.

Demolish all stadiums and disband the Sports School, since we are always buying sportsmen. Waste of money.

What else waste of money? Oh yah, demolish all the schools since the education system these days seem to be churning out lesser and lesser quality students, all monkeys and brats who juz seem to talk big & can't even debate properly.

Disband the entire civil service since civil servants are predominantly seen as redundant. Waste of taxpayer's money.

Maybe like to disband Temasek Holdings as well since dat Thai court ruiling thing saying that Temasek would be fined a couple of billions. Waste our money right?

What else? What else? Quick!!!! Suggest all those that need to be disbanded/demolished to save all our money!! Quick, quick!!!

  the new proposed stadium design??

i dunno abt u but the new national stadium not only looks like a horse shoe, a toilet seat... it reminds me of legs being split open too and that brings to mind altogether another issue.

what a waste of $$ for such a load of rubbish design.

Can we disband all the companies in Singapore?
Most of them seem like a waste of money, since everyone is always complaining about poor service.

Then channel all the money to research and make robots to take over the jobs of all Singaporeans. So that we can spend our time demonstrating against artificial intelligence.

u can try to demonstrate la. i bet u, u one man army infront of anywhere with banner up protesting, "where's the $$??", i guarantee u plus chop mata come and record ur statement.

hehehe

Well, I think if the above situation I described really happens Singaporeans will be smashing robots or something.

One stadium only mar. Give jobs to people also leh. Must not forget that building something needs a lot of workers! :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

i thot this is an April Fool's joke.. :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

not that i've anything against building a new sports hub stadium or anything remotely close to that.

what i'm against is the first design. the design element is not good, although the added spur of removable field la... wat let sea water in la.. all these little little gadgets, yes, nice.

no doubt the design is Thought-Provoking, Controversy-Creates-Cash kind, challenges the boundary of our wildest imagination..

but surely most stadiums in the world are designed in this Amphitheatre style for a reason, no?

i would still like the new national stadium to be a full bowl type of design, i still want the kallang roar to be trapped inside the stadium and the kallang wave to be a full house wave and not stop at some corner and hey presto, there's a big gap seperating the fans.

ok, wait and see the next 2 design.

Yar, but haven't confirm yet mar. Right.

If it's too ridiculous, and has too many cons.. Then we shouldn't be getting it? =D

Despite all the hoo-ha made about the Esplanade and the durian design.. Today you still see all the Singaporeans going there for free performances. Pragmatism.. Is to air your concerns aloud and then sneakily go and enjoy as well. Best of both worlds!

the durian, i've no complains becos i love durians and i quite like the design.

as for this sports hub.. not that i've anything against legs wide open... but hey, that's another issue altogether, if i'm able to see and 'visualise' it that way, i bet in this world many many many others can too.

and what a joke we'll be when the legs are wide open and there's an open sea......

will the new stadium hav green features other the grass patch than on the field? i think the horse shoe shape design is bad- too high contrast between the shady & the sunlite areas.

got such technology tt collect sound energy? the Kallang wave like sonic boom woh... :bsmilie:

must new buildings b more form than function? "wow" factor so important? the bill is the "wow" factor for me, especially now income gap widening any savings can b put to betta use.
