Yingluck running out of luck?

We will never understand their politic same as they also cannot understand ours. If their army is controlling the government, maybe let them rule the country. Why election? Very strange and interesting country.

The present chaos started because the PM and the ruling party tried (but failed) to push through a blanket amnesty bill that would have allowed Thaksin to return. To the protestors, this shows the true color of the ruling party.

Thaksin is such a divisive personality that for the good of his country, he should just stay away as well as away from the limelight.

Actually money politics may be worse in the urban and city areas, so it may not be true that Thai farmers are simplistic and easily misled or induced by some money.
Did you forget how Thaksin came into power?

It is the people that have voted this government. If what they did is not welcomed by the majority, they will loose the next election and the next government will reverse it. By coup or riot, there will be no end. Why then you need law and order?

End of the day, it is the ordinary people that suffer. I suspect most of those participating are paid and don't even know what the hell is going on. When elephants make love, the grass die

I tend to agree with your assessment.. its money politics.. some people have too much $$ and influence to gain power

"Royal Thai Air Force chief Prajin Jantong said Supreme Commander Thanasak Patimapagorn would convene a meeting of armed forces commanders after the royal ceremony marking His Majesty the King's birthday on Dec 5, to discuss ways of solving the long-running political conflict."

Game over... matters now back in army hands...

Game is NEVER over till the end... for heavensake... how many rumors of coup since she took over as ELECTED PM of Thailand... more than most people can remember.

And try not to forget... unless the Armed Forces wishes to once again rule the nation as some Junta (which they have tries and failed recently)... sooner or later red-shirt will mobilize and then the Army will have to kill their own people in the streets... which I don't see it as possible... and any future Election will see Red Shirt back in power... may not be the current govt... but highly possible their proxy...

If even Pakistan parliament can finish a complete term of office then I don't understand why Thailand cannot. They both share the same style, just a different currency.

If all the political parties cannot see eyes to eyes and work together, then what's the point of so called democracy?

Why not the Thai King take over and rule Thailand? No one will utter a word if the King is in charged. For example, Bhutan is currently ruled by its King. No chaos but prosperity and peace prevail.

Both Suthep Thaugsuban and Abhisit Vejjajiva claimed that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra is corrupted, etc. Are Suthep and Abhisit better or come clean? They know themselves.

All these people are fighting for their own benfits and not by enlarge of the Thai population.

Spoken to a Thai friend who has good connections in Thailand told me that Thaksin was removed from the office through a coup because the top guys became worried about his rising power. It is difficult to tame a tiger. The coup was also supported by the Royal family. The army also chose a good date where Thaksin was outstationed so that he couldn't do anything to stop the coup. In short, Thaksin was removed due to political motivated.

Prime Minister Yingluck was too eagered to amned the amnesty bill which gave a good "excuse" for the oppositions as a tool to start the protests. If her intention is to help her brother to return to Thailand through this bill, then she has indeed made a mistake. Her brother Thaksin is well connected not only in Thailand but elsewhere in the world. She should buy time and run her current government and shows the results to the people that her government is good such as economic growth, building infrastructure, education, health care and most importantly bring down the poverty ratio. Once you have the full people support, no other political party can do anything to you.

Thaksin does has a last trump card, i.e. he has a very good relationship with the King's son. If the King passed on and his son takes over as the new King of Thailand, Thaksin may have a chance to stage a come back.

The other way around: democracy is for people to cooperate in governments, come to compromises and joint decisions. It takes a learning curve, though. No democracy worked flawlessly from the first day it was announced.

Kings and royal families have the tendency to stick to powers, once gained. Agreed, the current King could help. But the guy is wise and smart, that's why he stays away from the job. Because he knows about his limited time left here and that Thailand needs a solution for the future. He also knows the next person who would become king once he leaves and I'm pretty sure he does not want this guy to be in charge. Quick fixes are not helpful. The country and its people have to learn the hard and slow way what democracy means.

If Thaksin loves his country, he should stay away and fade away, and not try all these tactics to try to make a come back to become a kingpin again.

Same could be said about the protest leader who is doing all this to keep certain Elite and those in the Military, in power.

By your same reasoning, shouldn't Both Suthep and Abhisit stop creating trouble for Thailand if they love their country?

Yes, you are right. All these people are fighting for their own benefits.

The impact of Thaksin overshadows all these other lesser personalities.

You mean those elite that is so entrenched within Thai Politics ?? :bsmilie:

Is Thaksin 'overshadowing'... sure, especially to those who had long held power within Thai Politics. The same group of military man... powerful/rich Business families.

Is Thaksin sinless ?? Of course NOT... He is just another politician that has played his cards properly... for once in the life of those poor farmer in the North, someone had bothered to listen to them... and have given them welfare and benefits when those other before Thaksin has not.

Some might call this buying votes... while other might call it welfare or help for the poor...

At least the poor benefitted from it. But it made the middle-class unhappy

I strongly doubt the mid-class is really unhappy... till the Elite which used to be in control felt their power slipping away... ever notice that those that keep hyping that Thaksin is not democratic or is abusing his power... are the same brunch that is asking the Army for a Coup and/or asking foreign power to interval against a Govt that has in more than one occasion, be ELECTED by the people of Thailand ??

Sometimes , actions are done for show :) if the army took over , it will damage the country with the perceived lack of security and of course stability.

The most powerful is always the one who doesn't make a scene and takes actions when it's really needed. U don't see the Thai King saying anything but it doesn't mean he has no power.

There r many countries who have done a voting system but the process didn't turn out very clean or democratic either. Just look at the Soviet Union and the many newly minted countries in S.Africa for examples.
