Why don't I join the photoshoots?

where on earth are these photoshoots and how to find out info on them?

i mean like i see "latest event" part on the home page eg.. NDP. is that there? will info be posted up there or the announcments and gathers thread? eg i see a few threads on the tiong bahru miss beautiful thread but i dun see a formal organisation thread is it tosafe to say that if someone post an event, u just go and see lot of guys there there arfe mostly from cs? so just go up and say hi? coz at least seed u know that the guys there are definilte from cs but at photoshoots....hard to tell..

Hi dehuis, there are free photoshoots and there are also paid photoshoots. I have been organizing paid photoshoots for many times already. Normally I will collect the participants names and call for a meeting before the shoot, so everybody knows everybody, and discuss and set the correct expectation.

thks for the reply. welcome ur offer but i not really into shooting models=) . i assume that u talking abt those studio types rite?
i like events and street. guess a bit hard to shoot in gp for those

I actually saw the group that went for the firecrackers / light-up event at Chinatown yesterday evening. They were all carrying really huge and impressive equipments, while I have a little Nikon CP5700 on one hand. With the limitations of CP5700, can't really do much in that crowded scene, so walked off by 7pm already.

Sometimes, joining can be fun but equipment can be a limitation. For instance, I just bought the teleconverter for Cp5700, and tried that out at Sg Buloh on New Year's day. Alas, the biggest shot of Egrets I have are still tiny about 20% of the frame.

I actually saw the group that went for the firecrackers / light-up event at Chinatown yesterday evening. They were all carrying really huge and impressive equipments, while I have a little Nikon CP5700 on one hand. With the limitations of CP5700, can't really do much in that crowded scene, so walked off by 7pm already.

Just thought I'll share with you this story. This photographer friend of mine was invited to African Safari with his friends, for the 1st time of his life, while his friends are veterans at it. He was advised to bring a wide angle lens, since the animals are so huge upclose that a telephoto lens is made redundant, so he happily brought his wide angles.

This friend felt it odd at the airport when he noticed his friends all carried giant telephotos. During the trip, he realised its true the animals are huge and they didn't pull his leg. However, in Safaris, people shoot from vehicles and don't venture out on their own to shoot animals. All his friends shot the birds from their cars. In such scenarios, he couldn't use the vehicle to chase animals since he was the only odd party and he didn't want to trouble his friends.

During the breaks, the guys leave their car to rest. This friend then noticed the exotic flora and fauna of the desert safari and began to shoot it with his short telephotos and wide angles.

Back in Singapore, this group was invited to submit pictures of their travel for an exhibition. Since everybody shot the same subjects, each photographer could only submit a few of their works. However, since this friend was the only guy who shot flora and fauna, most of his works was selected for the exhibition.

Moral of the story: Yes, certain forms of photography require expensive equipment. However, if you only have a limited range of equipment, why not capitalise and specialise on it. You will surely find a niche for your equipment. Its the photographer, not the equipment that makes pictures. If you die die must shoot subjects that require special equipment, then you are left with no choice- drop the hobby or spend a fortune on it. :think:

Newcomers, especially fun-shooters, don't worry. Join the outings, and free sessions, etc. You'll find many of us do not carry big expensive gears, or find the need to. Coolpixes are great cameras, too. As are A70s, C730s, G1s...

There are often many gathering ard here and there.
Usually the shoot are FOC unless otherwise stated.

Oso, A good way is to mingle ard 1st before shooting. It a good way to learn a trick or so from the many people here. And what a good way to start then to come down to SEED

From the forums, it would seem a large portion of you are in your late teens or early twenties only. I'm at least 10 years past that already. I mean, what if someone accidentally calls me "Ah Pek" or something ?

What's the average age of the people out on a shoot ? Do you have any statistic of that sort ?

Well not too sure abt yourself, over in SEED, there are plenty of middle-age. We still mingle ard quite a lot. And it not just abt age that stop us from enjoying photography.

The last time I went for a photo shoot, I found that my equipment is the most modest amongst all the chaps sporting huge barrels, also called phallic symbols. Someone has said that modern lenses are better than most photogs! I have played with cameras for more than 20 years. So, I would like to say,
Once a Photog, Always a Photog.

Also, the price of those studio shoot with models at 80 bucks is rather stiff. Of course, they are organised on a commercial basis, unlike in Safra PC.

Can I say it's all of the above poll... various factors cumulate to non attendance. (maybe that's why people chose forums in the first place).

Personally I felt that CS offered a unique opportunity to learn as it offers both forum based discussion as well as opportunities to meet up with fellow photogs not only for photography but also for socialisation.

One thing I dun understand is that some are feeling too green or equipment is too modest... I tot CS is particularly good for newbies. Plenty of good advices and critques will go a long way in improving your photos regardless of equipments or level of skills.

But since everyone's here in this forum..enjoy photography lah... just need to be careful of the Buy,Buy,Buy... Bug. :devil: (I'm infected already )
