As far as I know there isn't much known about any differences other than the chrome ring on the older FD S.S.C. and the red ring on the FDn L version.

Though, the older version seems to be heavier ([FONT=Arial, verdana, helvetica, geneva]500g compared to 430g).[/FONT]
I paid US$990 for it last year and the condition is very good but I saw them already in worse conditions for more than twice as much on eBay from HK and Japan. Unfortunately there are not many on the market.
