I guess AF with existing lenses will be much slower, probably as slow as 43 lenses with adapter on a m43 body.

K-5 live view AF is not slow. but it drains the battery fast...

but why designed exclusively for use with the K-01? does that mean cant use it on k-r? by right the 40mm xs is k mount, logically should be can right?

FW posted a pic of the Silver DA40XS with a Silver Limited Edition K5. THat shows it will work on the K-r.

I personally liked it, but the compact aspect might be a key consideration, and the handling... Well the buying decision for me lies on my girl..

Seems thick. Might be some powerful dunno how many core CPU inside. Anyway it should have a better CPU (quad core?) as compared to K5. Processing should be much faster bah. Really hope it will better the m4/3.

seems a lot of people find it ugly. i actually like the design, especially the white one.

looks like its going to cost arounf 1k-ish in sgd, which is a good price point.

i think the AF performance is the most critical factor that will decide whether it is a good or bad product.

Think of an Oly EP3 but IBIS=SR; OLY JPG=Pentax OOC colors;
Top that up with APS-C; Not just APS-C but K5 capability APS-C; FULL K-mount compatibility; Generous Pentax features on their cameras.
Wide selection on small primes and new ones to come

This site reports focus peaking ..... don't know if its true, but I'm buying if it has it.

Pentax official spec says have Focus Peaking. So I guess I will see you around town with the K-01

I took a look at the vids and the pics again...... though I don't like the design much ("be interesting" - man Pentax really adopted that motto) it has an interesting possibility. One I hope and suspect is that the xs designated lenses with have their rear elements recessed deep into the body since there is no mirror to block - what that means (I think) would be a shorter external barrel for the xs lenses which mean a more compact combo AND with the rear element closer to the sensor, hopefully better image quality all round.

Will I buy this camera? .....well.........I already have a k5 but if Pentax came out with interesting lenses (at this point I have no doubt ) maybe I'll just get one. Unless Fengwei has news of another Pentax body?? FF maybe ??

looks like it might be like a cheaper alternative to upgrading from my k7 hmm...i wonder if they have matched up the af speed to that of the ep3/epl3, and if it has an evf option i'll seriously consider getting one...

btw it doesnt seem to have a manual/auto focus switch?

A DSLR is very different from mirror less camera. If you have compared EVF to TTL VF before you would understand what I mean.

take away all the hypes - and talk sense...

- its form factor not smaller than k-5
- its capability/functionality not better than k-5
- its UGLINESS is instant
- without evf - half the fun gone
- live-view equal to shorter battery life

guys,
this is definitely not for the pentax dslr owners, particularly k-5 owners.
the whole idea for pentax to come out with this little beast was trying to chip away market share from the other mirrorless cams
why get so hyped up???
- fans = fanatics???
