I think the whole case hasn't made sense to anyone but Odex from the begining. Its like the sane trying to puzzle out the reasons of the insane. Can't be done coz its unfathomable.

does that mean that those that signed and paid dunnoe wat they are paying for and might be paying out of fear.

it's really wierd, everything's so grey, especially with regards to copyright infringement. i believe the usual practice for copyright issues is issue of warning and then warned party remove content instead of asking for payment upfront, isn't it? even if payment is involved, i think that should go to the copyright owner directly ... i thought AVPAS should be the one acting on the issues instead of Odex?

Direct demand of payment is also practiced, juz that for "commoners" like us, we prefer not to be engaged in legal procedures so "ask nicely" is our prefered option.

IIRC, there was a case where LKY's photo was used in a resort promotional brochure and was immediately demanded to cease usage of the pic and brochure plus compansation.

What I find not "correct" is that no company can "fine" anyone.

what happens if the 1000 people affected group together and sort out the discrepancies ...

i thought only the court can fine? you mean they actually fine the internet users? that's very wrong

Odex = AVPAS
Odex is on the board of AVPAS
Address of AVPAS = Address of Odex

What a coincidence!

More than likely yes. Because if you think about it Odex is using scare tactics on the assumption that no one will consult a lawyer on their own.

oops... sorry, used the wrong term. not ine but seek compansation... it should imply that it means negotiable.

from asia1 : "Once Odex obtains the identities of the Internet users alleged to have downloaded the anime videos, the company will likely contact them and seek compensation of up to 5,000 Singapore dollars (US$3,285; ?2,419) from each, Odex Director Stephen Sing said. The users will also have to destroy any stolen content and stop further illegal downloading."

they may consist of the same physical makeup, but when it comes to execution of responsibilities, doesn't it look like a major mix up that Odex is handling the cases instead of AVPAS? actually i'm getting confused who is representing who and who is suppose to do what :bsmilie:

actually if u do a wiki on ODEX.. u can find all the info there...and it becomes quite clear

Stephen Sing is a spindoctor where he took the photo posted by the people at Hardwarezone EDMW about burning the house as a death threat.

Unfortunately, The New Paper journalist did not carry that photo instead it did a frontpage headline with only the threat sentence and made the online community as the bad guys.

This is the frontpage of TNP.

This is the threat that made Mr Stephen goes to the police.

That should be interesting to follow as mantioned, ODEX dun have a good track record in marketing itself and therefore might only be able to claim for much lesser amount, furthermore if there are minors involved, I don't think the parents should be liable if it can be put across properly.

Link from TS is worth reading, should the affected group takes collective actions against ODEX.

Yes, the people at HWZ EDMW has forwarded that photo to The New Paper.

However, I'm not sure if TNP will carry that photo as it shows that the journalist did not really do their homework.

TNP is and always been a tabloid too so of course they'd sensationalize it.
