Leica no more under Schmidt soon?

On the contrary, for major servicing, I would insist that the lens/body be sent back to Germany.

hear, hear...have to realize that the equipment is expensive and what it takes to realign a lens after it is being taken apart.

Is there a new service center for Leica cameras?

Leica Camera Asia Pacific Pte Ltd at #06-04 International Building is the place you should bring your Leica for service or repairs. The problem is that they will ship your Leica out to Germany twice a month.
However a full time technician would be engaged in Mar/April to take care of some common repairs.

We can all look forward to better service from Leica soon I hope.

If its to drink german beers & eat pock knuckles, please count me in!

I'm sure they will send the successful candidate to Solms for 6 months product familiarization, 9 months training and another 6 months competency confirmation. By that time, I'm sure you can speak some German too... :bsmilie:

By the time the tech is ready to work, my digital M will be obsolete :bsmilie:

esp for those wondering about servicing of your leica equipment, fyi pls.

My M8.2 is still not back since September. Called yesterday and no confirmation can be given on when it will be back, only saving grace is that there is a shipment that came in , and hope that it is there.
purpose of the post of was to alert ppl with new service request for their leica products that schmidt would not longer be taking them. i am sure that schmidt would honour any outstanding repair / servicing contracts... just make sure you keep the invoice!! ;)

Just wanted to share my excellent experience with Leica Camera Asia Pacific. I emailed them asking if their product specialist would be able to re-fix the red dot on a friend's summicron-m lens sometime in late January. Their office manager, Karrien was very prompt in her replies and very helpful as well in tracing whether the lens was still under warranty etc. She also emailed me as soon as the red dot was shipped to Singapore.

What's more, the service was complementary (Schmidt quoted me $15.00 just for the red dot) and I would say a pretty good job was done by their product specialist. :)

That's good to hear. I'm going to see them either this week or next and hope to report back on a positive note.

The red dot on my lens fell off too. Luckily I noticed it so I took some eproxy glue and pasted it back. As good as new. :)

For the RED dot on lens, think we can just fix it ourselves. Get a thumb tack , those RED round headed ones, remove the pin, sand and file the RED head to half, of course choose the right size, epoxy it onto your lens. With this we can have red dot, orange dot, green dot and whatever dots you like... hope it helps

Sent my digital M in this morning and was told that it will need a trip back home to the "motherland". Will update all as to the progress of the whole process as it develops.
