LCD has some black spots just after taking picture using Canon 10d

Can someone please tell me whether this is normal for the Canon 10d. I just bought it a week ago.

Immediately after I take a picture and the LCD display comes on, sometimes the picture has patches of black. But when I review the picture there are no black patches just what is suppose to be there in the picture. Are the black patches normal?

Any help would be appreciated.

If I am not wrong, the "black patches" are there to highlight the blown-out (overexposed) areas, so that you can retake the shot.

i think you have got the display setting wrong.

Thx StreetShooter. you're right in most instance I was pointing in the direction of the sun or water that was reflecting the sun's rays.
