Hi, I went to Italy in 2008 for a month. I feel an ultra wide angle lens is no use. A 24-70 and 70-200mm, fisheye lens (for FX) r best for italy. In Rome, it will be nice to use a fisheye for the drawings on the ceilings. In smaller towns as well as other cities, 24-70 n 70-200mm are more than enough.

I brought an ultra wide lens too but find the subjects too small when u use it.

U may need to use f/2.8 and high ISO quite often for shots in the churches as the sky may get dark early during winter
