Is Singapore getting too expensive for the middle class?

Problem is 'quality of life' is also subjective..:)

Very true. Each has to find their own meaning. Unfortunately for many, they just got to manage as they are deep into this.

How about abolishing this CPF nonsense altogether?

Goverment would be happy to hear this as they get to keep all the contributed funds.

You should be in politics. :bsmilie:

I can walk in, sit there TC, but come out without spending. As long I spend before, the owner is ok with me. :D

I can't afford the Zeiss 55 f1.4...... :( hahahaha

A perfect solution is to work in Singapore and live in Johore to beat the high cost of living.

Quite a number of people have been doing it for many years. And such arrangement is catching up.

The beautiful part is this would free the housing areas in Singapore for more economic and industrial activities.

This could be a win win solution for all. :)

Sad to say but knowing our neighbour, one fine day when its time, we get plucked! We will be held hostage over our assets there. We will also be accused of exploiting their country, their resources & people. I think our efforts to help them develop their southern tip & buying homes there are detrimental to us in the long run. Just look at the water agreements, the sale of sand to us & what happened to our shares in the last great economic crisis. We trust them, the people there don't even trust their own government!

My answer to the question is yes. The middle class is going to get squeezed real tight. Small percentage will make it to the top, to the upper/elite class, the rest the majority will become low class due to the fast growing economic divide. Many Sporeans will be finally left with nothing much more than their pigeon holes in the end. And these too will be gone when the HDB lease is up in 2 generations and more. See the values drop when the time comes....

No way! That's like becoming someone I have grown to despise over the years!

And if I every become one, that's like telling the world I'm incompetent! :bsmilie::bsmilie::bsmilie:

Er ... that pigeon hole is usually 99yrs lease .. so ultimately its left with nothing ... unless u manage to save up some CASH before u hit retirement age.

Middle class=those people in the middle of the butt crack, facing the ass hole :)

You are leaning towards upper middle class.

Just remember we are middle class. The Canon or Nikon class and not Leica or Zeiss class. :bsmilie:

You have been reading up Karl Marx and Lenin in the library?

No wonder so long don't see you in KPT to Lim Kopi. :bsmilie:

Not worth for that price unless rich enough. Also hardly use that range. Normal 50mm f1.4 more than enough.

some guys kenna CLOB'ed still have not learnt their lesson

every election time, your home in JB becomes a football to be kicked about to please the voters

buy a JB home only if you are prepared to lose it

i would rather rent a house/condo in JB ..... once it goes to hell from non-maintenance just move to a new development rather than be trapped in a rotting development that cant sell 10-15 years later

I did not lose money during CLOB saga leh. I just held on to my shares until the very end. I think I still made profit.

Which makes it a fact. As true as the sun rises from the east.

Frankly, it just goes to show how incompetent the decision to release such a report was.

Releasing such a report probably made matters worse. Previously, my thinking was hey it is just one report that says singapore is really expensive. Maybe there are other studies which says otherwise.

The fact that all the government could dig out was a study done locally in LKY school has just convinced me that probably all other independent studies arrives at the same conclusion... Singapore is bloody expensive.

If you have lived in Singapore for an extended time, you'll notice that there is only one class: the middle educated class.

The upper class and lower class have been largely marginised.

If you don't believe me take a walk in Orchard Road or read the mainstream newspaper Straits Times where middle class values are all too obvious, prominent and glaring.

A classless middle class society is the utimate utopia where everyone enjoys equal opportunities even if it costs a bit more for such privilege.

Let's celebrate it instead of KPKB. :)
