How did he shoot the picture without a bright sky?

I went out into a park last Sunday afternoon, it was a rainy/cloudy day.
I was inside bushes shooting a squirral. Wherever there is sky, the backgdound
was always burnt out. How come this picture doesn't have my problem? Did the
photographer use some filter or what?

exposure is set for the background and flash is used to brighten the bird. you could see the catchlights in the eye.
 

erm, are u two in the same area? perhaps he shot it when e sky wasn't that bright..?
 

Yup.. flash is used.

Do exposure compensation also. +EV.
 

yep this is simply fill flash.
