I believe its a 70-300mm at $99 , not the 70-200mm.

If you would to wait, there might be some new releases by Canon.

If i were you, get the 450D if you can afford it. Otherwise, the 1000D does well. Try out the cameras and see which fits you well.

Take care.

I would recommend the 450D.... coz I don't like the idea of canon "crippling" the 1000D by excluding "spot metering"..... :(

for < $200 diff might as well get the 450D. i think its a better option than regretting later and buy another one to upgrade

If budget allow, 450D will be the 1 to get.

i hope they MkII the 18-200...please come out in PMA...

Must be Canon or you prefer more options?

definitely 450D...its the best entry level SLR...period

Hi, I am in the same situation as you.
Was deciding between Nikon D60 and Canon 1000D. In the end, somehow prefer Canon.

Then friend also encouraging to get Canon 450D instead. So a bit heart moved also.
Size & Weight wise, they are pretty comparable
Specs wise, 450D got the edge in terms on a larger LCD screen and slightly higher specs
Pricing wise, <$200 difference.

But for a beginner like me.. Im not sure whether whether I can tell the photo quality difference between the 2!

it differs from user to user as everyone have different needs so can have many "best" entry level dslr.

for about the same money can get the K200D.

go for 1000d and buy a good lens.

I agree with CQprime.

Buy the 1000D, save about $200 from buying the 450D. Do not buy the EF 75-300 mm F/4-5.6 III USM lens at $99. Instead go to John 3:16 and buy a good EF-S 55-250 mm F/4-5.6 IS lens at about $360 (lower than recommended canon price).

The 1000D is very capable and I don't think most of us here require spot metering. 10 MP is enough to do a lot of things. :)

Cheers

if budget allows, go for 40D or best, 50D. Because for 450D and 1000D, they are using SD cards. While the rest are CF cards. So buying alot of SD cards now will be a waste when you upgrade
