I got the flu earlier LOL

 63!! That's 25%! You are the champion at this moment.
My avatar, Common Rose, is not on the list.

Well done !!
It gets tougher after the first 60 ;) All the common butts are already in your list so you have to venture out of AH Butterfly Trail and into parks and nature reserve/areas to catch the more uncommon species.

Actually, that doesn't really happen. Even if you've got that species before, as a photographer, you'll always want to strive for the "best shot ever" and keep trying to improve - better background, smoother bokeh, better angle, sharper eyes, different activity, nicer specimen, male/female, etc., etc. ;p

If you're well-infected by the flu, you'll find that you won't get bored chasing after butts. ;) Someone here has been doing that for the past 35 years... :embrass:

Definitely possible. Many of you have got photographically-perfect shots which are much nicer than what I have. A lot of my earlier ones were just record shots. And quite a number of common butts which I was too lazy to go out and shoot. ;p

There are some without photos. How do you know they exist in Singapore?

I am a volunteer researcher with a permit to collect and hold voucher specimens, i.e. a type of entomologist. Every species that is confirmed in the checklist has a scientifically verifiable specimen.

Not all species can be ID'ed by photos alone. Even with a dead specimen, some of them need to be dissected and/or subject to DNA analysis for a 100% sure confirmation of the ID. That's something that's way beyond all of us here, who are hobbyists more than scientists.

If we get a good butt book like "Butterflies of the Malay Peninsula" by Corbet & Pendlebury 4th Edition, like FujiS2 and Lion King have, it will help a lot in the ID'ing of the pictures that we have.

So let's just go and enjoy shooting butts first. :)

Hi Bob,

Do you have a website for all the photos of the butterflies mentioned in your list? Can serve as an alternative reference for IDing other than the one Papilio has. :)

Dunno whether its a good idea since Papilio's site is so comprehensive. Also I've never done a website and dunno how to go about it LOL.

But if we were to do it, it wont be just my images in it. We should pool all the species we had shot so that it become like a repository for species that all the butt flu bitten victims had come across.

We can have everyone submit their pics and a panel pick the best ones to go into the repository. We should include all the deviations of both sex of any species to make it easier to ID the butts and have shots both with wings spread out as well as folded.

What do the butt flu bitten crazies think about this? Especially the Super Carrier Papilio :D
