system restore only works when you create your check points diligently. and if i did not remb wroonlgy , it does not insure you against format.... because when you do format, the system assumes you know what you are doing... (remember the 2 dialogs that prompted you before you made the boo boo?)
when you format a hdd... chances are your data is gone... to recover it, its usually beyond an individual financial means.
you can go for those 'undelete' or file recovery softwares and give it a try.... dont get your hopes up too high.
erm...... may i ask what sort of data recovery? and crash? hdd motor died?

use commerical recovery software lar .. those freeware may not be able to help ..

Still don't know what happened, comp just rebooted itself and everything was reverted back to as if it's new, including almost all data gone.
What is the problem with the hard disk?
