Abercrombie & Fitch ad suspended by authorities

That's the standard A&F advertise picture. They sometime have it on their paper bags too. In states they sometime hv models appearing in the shop just like the pictures. I personally don't find anything wrong with the picture, just a normal topless man like what you see in the beach or swimming pool minus the 6 pack .... Must be some one who is lack of self confident and full of jealousy who complained... I am disappointed that in today Singapore a simple advertisement picture like this can be ban !!!
Maybe too many ladies (or men?) screaming, or looking too long while at the wheel, causing accidents.
Errr, I hardly see the product in that ad. So they selling what ah?:think: I think they sell sunglasses right? Still I cannot see what's the ad is trying to sell.

A&F has a great marketing department!!! They do this in the US all the time. They make an ad that they know will cause controversy and the sit back and laugh at all the free exposure they get out of it when it is reported in the news. The ad is supposed to give them exposure and it does that wonderfully.
It's not about being creative, it's about getting people to talk about your brand. How many people are going to say they want to see the ad now that it has been reported and will go into the A&F store? Quite a bit.
Plus they did their research well. That such an innocent pic would raise such a fuss. Although I bet most people don't care, it's just the few that scream loudly.

If you look at the map of the area where this advert is shown, then you will know why it is not acceptable.
The ad is splashed for Knightsbridge, on one side of Grand Park Hotel. Just next to and behind Grand Park Hotel is the Masjid Al-Falah mosque. The ad is offensive to the womenfolk of the people who go to this place of worship. In Singapore, a definite no-no. It will not be tolerated for very long.

Our law-makers are a lost bunch and we are having an identity crisis as a nation. They want to position Singapore as a global city with cosmospolitan lifesyle - casinos, dancing on bar-top, F1, red light district and what you have - and yet they would pull the plug on certain creativity.
:dunno: I didn't even think much each time I walked past. Some Singaporean are just too hyped up about such things and thinking too "low". :bsmilie:
Perhaps the ad was for the men instead ? To brain storm about what to get for their girls ? :bsmilie: In any case, I'm skeptical about the statement "most ladies are probably too embarrassed to look long enough"
1) I think most don't need to look long enough to know what is sold and who is selling
2) Is there a statistic to shows how "most" is quantify ? I also read in Her World and related magazines that in asian countries, even in Singapore, ladies ain't necessary that conservative nowadays. When they feel the "yeeee, what is so gross", the next moment, they took another look too. Not true ?

We suck in too much of the west culture, with the young very attracted to it's lifestyle. The east culture still holds true and shouldn't be abandon.
Being modern does not require being western. It's hip to be open-minded and speak one's mind but holding back your thoughts and opinions to respect others is not easy to do for most.
