Hi,
I have an issue whether either one is master or slave, and I disable the master flash from firing, the master flash still triggers.

How do I totally disable it?

I even tried 2 x 580 ex ii but still same results.

Do you want only master to be off?

Is the master flash actually firing (= adding light to the scene) or only giving the flash for flash exposure metering?
Adjust the settings that you will clearly see the added the light coming from master. If you can't see it in the picture then it's only the flash exposure metering.

I havent used that option but i agree with octarine. I would set flash compensation to -2 or -3 or more to do that. Also you can consider to buy ST-E3-RT.

The master flash will 'light up' even if disabled because it is sending the optical signal to the slave(s). You should see the difference if you shoot two photos - one with the master enabled and the other disabled. To see the effect better in the test, power off the slaves.
