Actually any of the fast 50mm (50/2, 50/1.7, 50/1.4) are able to do this. Depends on budget, AF/MF preferences.

I am in the midst of preparing my own comparison shootout of the following 50mm prime lenses for Pentax K-mount:

FA 50mm f/1.4
FA 50mm f/2.8 Macro
A 50mm f/1.4
A 50mm f/1.7
A 50mm f/2
A 50mm f/2.8 Macro
M 50mm f/1.4
M 50mm f/1.7
Sigma 50mm f/2.8 Macro

will throw in the FA 43mm f/1.8 Limited as well, and maybe the DA 50-200mm WR just to mix things up.

No f/1.2 lenses to test unfortunately.

Will post the results at a later date. Coming soon. :D

M50/1.4: 150

50/2 @f2

50/1.7 @f1.7

Certainly not an objective test.
I have found very little difference between the 2 (pixel peeping aside).
The f1.7 does not really give too much advantage in shutter speed (its just a +0.3 ev to exposure or a really small +0.3 increase to ISO). Very often, the camera does not even meter the difference.

When focused close enough, there is little to complain about regarding the lack of DOF for both of them.
Rant : I just don't like the the 'bokeh type shots'. To me its just a shot with shallow DOF. :)

I would get either one based on budget and availability.
Hell! I've got 2 or each and 50/1.4 on the way and I've sold my prev Cosina 50/1.4

protect front element from accidental knocks and scratches and reduce flaring due to stray light. i also find that a hood makes the lens look nicer.
