Black card technique in overdrive? Or really got such a scene?

It's definitely blended, or at least blackcarded. There's no such scene. However! One thing I know about Japanese fireworks is that they don't spam like Singapore and instead shoot just up to 3 at the same time or so, space it out in terms of time, and also space it out literally, shooting over...

    YN560 II batteries scorching hot!

Yeah.... most likely the case. I'm really surprised that such a unit can't handle 1 hour of shooting just 50 shots at like 1/16 power.... Not even burst mode!

Oh, I'm using normal alkaline energiser primary batteries. Update: I can't turn on the unit.... Looks like it's back to SG Camera Store...

    YN560 II batteries scorching hot!

Just bought a YN560 mk2 about 2 weeks ago and decided to test it out at home by shooting objects. Did around 50 shots at 1/32 or 1/16 power over 1 hour or so. Thing is, the flash suddenly shut off (likely due to weak batteries cos they weren't fresh to begin with) and the batteries were too hot...

    torchlight

I don't know about the hot shoe mounts, but there are photogs who also use those on lightstands in place of flashes. They are exactly as you say: LED arrays. You know what they are! So I don't really get your question....

Official Canon EOS 7D User Thread Part I

Yup, I did. I think it's a light spill. Whenever the focus points are illuminated in red, I notice that the entire viewfinder gets a very slight red illumination. Been there since I bought mine earlier this year (2nd hand) so I believe it's inherent of the construction of the camera rather than...

    torchlight

Depending on your situation, you might like to light up certain parts of your subject a little more. Torchlights are very cheap compared to flashes, and they are continuous, so you can see what you're lighting without having to force-fire the flash and check each adjustment. Also, in some...

Manual mode all the way. 7D has 3 customisable manual modes (C1 to C3) on top of the M mode which can be handy for switching to when dealing with special conditions. Consult your manual on how to use them. Basically the default factory mode is usually sufficient in achieving what you want, and...

Canon 70-200mm f2.8 mark I or mark II?

Wow! Quite an appreciable difference there... All round improvement from centre to the corners!

I was also in the exact same situation, upgrading from the 450D. Went with the 17-55. The 24-70 and 24-105 Ls are really good, but they won't be able to function as your mid-range lens since 24 on a cropped body is still rather narrow. Just remember to use a filter with the 17-55 or else you...

Official Canon EOS 7D User Thread Part I

You'll probably see almost nothing at F11 ;p , not to mention focus will have to be entirely manual! But if it's a full moon, and a really really clear sky (no mist-like thingies) then you might be fine.

Well, the current buffer on the 7D is only for 15 RAWs, so if you're firing at full 8 fps, yes, it'll start lagging. Just wait till the new firmware is released next week. It'll upgrade the buffer to 25 RAWs, so you'll expect maybe around 15-18 for RAW+JPG mode I guess?

Canon 70-200mm f2.8 mark I or mark II?

Hmm... can't seem to find any direct comparison with a quick Google search. Don't have the time to plow deeper, but maybe some anecdotes might help? There are similar questions raised in other forums too! Canon Rumours: Canon 70-200 2.8 MkI vs MkII Fred Miranda: Canon 70-200mm f2.8 mk1 vs f2.8...

Canon 70-200mm f2.8 mark I or mark II?

Hey, since you've tried all 5 great zooms, how's the weight of the F2.8 vs the F4? (both IS of course) I was also deciding on the 5 different 70-200 Ls, and I picked the F4 IS since it offered more mobility and superb image quality, along with IS of course, only at the cost of 1 stop. I'm not...

Canon 70-200mm f2.8 mark I or mark II?

Btw, I was just wondering, if you're willing to fork out all that money to get a 70-200 L F2.8 IS, then you should go all the way for the MK II version, else, if you're thinking of the MK I, why not go for the F4 IS instead? It has really great optic quality (that can rival the MK I) and is...

    Instagram debasing photography?

I quite agree with the author of the article there. What she's saying is that everyone who uses Instagram is using the same filters over and over again, such that it's another spam of photos, almost like a meme. Except that it's more irritating because they think that the filters make their...

    Dslr sling strap

Well, a camera strap is a rather personal preference. Depends on how you like to shoot. If you've been shooting in many situations, you might find that it's convenient to have this type of "sling strap" rather than the default neck strap, or you might like hand straps instead. For me, I'm...

Canon 5D mark ii, 5D mark iii or 7D

I would also like to add on what I mentioned on the first page: The point I'm trying to make is that, regardless of owning L lenses or not, for the same effective coverage, crop users will inevitably spend less (whether they like it or not), because longer lenses tend to be more expensive, and...

Canon 5D mark ii, 5D mark iii or 7D

I partially agree with you regarding the owning of L lenses, but my point is that for the same coverage, 7D users would pick the good EF-S lenses instead of L, because, due the crop factor, there are no L lenses that cover the desired range. Take for e.g. a UWA lens. For FF users, they'd...
