If thats the case..why not just glue your eyes to the big LCD screen when the concert is ongoing. Unless the concert u going..dosent have LCD screen. :bsmilie:

for concerts, most important thing to take note is to get the lightest, as u are gona hold for a long time. again, the nikon sportstar ex 10x25 fits the bill.

i have tried using 10x42 for the phantom of the opera, and my hands were sore after a while.. its definitely brighter and clearer in viewing, but the weight is uncomfortable for long duration.

camera + lens might not be good becos some concerts disallow cameras, and batteries drain fast in Live View. besides, its much clearer and sharper to view using bino..

stupid nikon should just pay me for helping them to advertise.

btw, if u are ok with viewing with just one eye, u can look at monoculars, they are even lighter and more convenient.

thanks... good advise there... u got a point about battery draining... i'm going for jay chou concert in june so it's going to be almost 3hrs...? i guess binoculars would be more appropriate..

anyway looking at the binoculars specs... besides the weight and the AAxBB numbers to indicate magnification factor and lens brightness... any other factors that i should consider..? from nikon's website Nikon Singapore Pte Ltd ... besides the sportstar ex that you recommended... i see there is also sports lite -- which is lighter and cheaper than sportstar ex... yet having the same magnification and brightness... any reason why the sportstar would cost more...?

u pay to go to LIVE concert .... just so you can watch it on a camera LCD screen ???

errr go to LIVE concert to feel the overall experience bah... but because the tics so hard to get... and ex... i only bought the 2nd cheapest tics... dunno how far it is away from the stage... so i'd like to be able to view closer to the stage lor... maybe not using camera LCD screen cos of the reasons that devil mentioned bah... lol...

I never play with the sports lite before, but from the specs, i think the major important difference is that it is not nitrogen filled and waterproof.... The build quality also seems flimsy. Even if its cheap, i would strongly recommend to never get one without nitrogen filling/waterproof..

As for the built of the sports star, u hav to feel it in ur hands, and u will kniw why its built is good...

We have just got the Monarch 10x42. The difference in light emission was quite significant. We will put them into use (for birding) and come back to update the outcome. Many thanks to all those who contributed and shared their know and experiences.

One last question: the wife is asking for space in the dry box. That would be correct? treat it like a lens which requires drybox I guess?

The Nikon rep that I spoke to at CSC had advised me to keep even nitrogen-sealed bins in dry cabinet. But I only do so for my more expensive bins. So far as good, fingers crossed.

definitely need to put in dry box.. the interior maybe nitrogen filled & hence the interior is fungus proof. however the exterior part of the lens i.e. the lens exterior in the front & the part of the lens where ur eyes view are exposed to outside humidity & high chance to grow fungus in our humid environment...

in general try to clean/wipe the lens exterior after every outing, then drybox it... afterall its hundreds of dollars, worthwhile to protect it..

why must get one with nitrogen filling...? less prone to fungus izzit..?? today amazon gold box deal gota simmons binoculars for USD49.99... wonder izzit worth the $$$..? but i guess it may be bit too heavy for concert huh..?

if its nitrogen filled and sealed, it means the binoculars is waterproof tight. When no air and water can go into the bino, the lens elements inside the binos will not get fungus. If its not nitrogen filled, there's chance that fungus can grow on the lens elements inside the bino.

However, as mentioned earlier, the lens elements on the surface that is exposed to the outside can still get fungus. the solution is to keep it in drybox when not in use, regardless if its nitrogen filled or not.

as for the bino which u saw, yes.. its can be quite heavy if u intend to use 2hr - 3hrs non-stop for concert.. it's a 12x50, which is quite "large" in size.

I dunno how true are its claims of waterproofness... but still, I would spend a bit more and get a brand which is well-known, at least I know some assurance is there..

thanks alot again...! looks like i better buy with nitrogen... doing a search... i found something interesting on amazon UK...

for some reason... this london 2012 edition is only costing £32.98...! considering the same thing... normal edition costs SGD158 from nikon product page... i calculated when shipping via vpost... it'll work out to around SGD100 or so.... i wonder if there are any catch to this...? u think it's a good deal..? i'm tempting to hoot..! :D

Indoor stadium? No need bino lah. Usually there are 2 big screens on both sides for you to see close ups. You can also see the stage clearly.

I have seen people bring DSLR though it is clearly stated no photography. Majority are filming with their smartphones anyway. But my suggestion is just go and enjoy. The last one I went to, the crowd was on their feet most of the time. I think for Jay Chou will be the same.

those on a budget can convert their telephoto camera lenses into spotting scope with an adaptor

example below is just one of a few styles of adaptors available

Oh please, I have had seats on the highest levels of Tokyo Dome and Yokohama Stadium and never used any optical implements at all. Moreover, tickets in Japan are assigned at random ie you play same price for a seat right next to the stage and for one the furthest away. You won't know what ticket you get until you get it. You didn't want to fork out the money for the best, you just lan lan suck thumb and suffer for it. And yes it is impossible to enjoy a concert while holding a camera high up and trying to look at it.

If one time use, just rent a good one.

Ed ?? She takes my lens and I am left with the ?? That kind of defeats my HIDDEN purpose: 1. "Dear we need an additional dry cabinet" 2. "Now that we do things together, should we not consider the 600mm?".. :)
