Hope i understand correctly, Are you using "SEL" focus point select? The dial is just above the Quick control button. If you have selected the "SEL", then you menu will be at point selector. You can notice on the bottom right of the screen, when you press the buttons, the point in the screen wiill move up,down right left. If you want to go over to the WB,Timer etc mode. Press and hold the "OK" button and you will move out of the Point focusing select mode.

Cheers,

Thank for the pointer bro... Will take a look.... Haaa yesterday was fumbling with the Auto ISO thing... But manage to understand it after reading the manual... Kekeke... Not much time to read the manual...

Edited... Yes Bro Ranchy, you are right.... just press the OK everything will be Okay...

Just got back from the shoot.... overall please with the pics... except some pics not so satisfactory.... but not camera fault, user fault......... need to practice flash photography more.... really CMI.... end up most of the shots I take without flash and most turn out alright...

We have another new K5 user. I just brought my school colleague to buy her K5 from OP this afternoon. She will be bringing it to Taiwan for her holiday. /with the DA18-135 WR of course . . .

Hello! I'm a beginner, going to get the K5 silver one with 40mm lens tomorrow, any recommendations for other lens and other things?
Like battery, protector, memcard etc.
I shoot people and food, with some scenery shots.

Oooh okay. Is it more expensive to buy at the shops? (slrr, op, etc)

Also, is $25 worth the price for additional freebie like memcard and protective lens?

For storage purposes, I bought a 10 litre "Tupperware" for $7 from those wholesale shop; just make sure that it has those rubber linings on the cover for airtight. Then I go eBay and bought 1 digital hygrometer for $5, took about 2 weeks to reach. Silica gels bought once every 2 months for ard $7.90, can be found at most photo shops.

When I got more lens, I "upgraded" my Tupperware to 20litre and gave my mum the used "Tupperware"! :D

Hygrometer forever hovering between 35%-48%..

All cheap and good! :D

Anyways, for $25 "extra", I think it's worth it because:

1) You don't have a memory card to use
2) I think you wouldn't feel the pinch of $25 later on 1 month from date of purchase..

:D

Just get a dry box. Don't need to hassle with managing the silica gel. (blue ones have cobalt and are carcinogenic if ingested in significant amounts.)
I do use one at my mother's place if I stay there for a week and brought a camera there. (portable)
Long term though, = dry box

Memory card and lens, not really worth right?
Sandisk 16GB class 10 is only $16
Lousy no-brand filter $10-15

Memory card, you will want a fast one for faster review.
Filter, you will want a good one ($30+) so that it won't cause you problems with haze and flare.

The 'free' ones usually won't cut it.

OT , Jk where to get class 10 Sandisk at $16 ? The cheapest I found us only sandisk ultra class 10 for $21 at sim lim . Most shop selling ard $30+

Got one during PC show

I am a newbie here, Have been visiting this forum for couple of months just to find out what my first dslr would be.
I visited canon, nikon and sony before i stumbled on this Pentak forum.
The first time in here I browse to look at the awesome photo and soon realised the folks here are into photo taking while the canon and nikon folks are into buying new camera or upgrading all the times .The Sony bros not bad and just like you guys here, but The Wheather seal of K 30 is the winner, hope to join you all :) Pentaxians :)

So is it recommended that i wait till pc show to buy?! ><
Hmm, dry box, memory card, filter. Need to get extra batt or flash? o.o

Hi,
As the bros here suggested, get the electronic dry cabinet to store your gears. Get the right size and this is more viable in the long run compared to DIY.
Filter: try not to get the cheap ones as other than "protecting" the front element, it can degrade the image quality. Do note that good filters like b+w are not cheap....

Spare batt: the one in K5 is pretty long lasting and you may want to get the 3 party ones for abt +-$30. Flash: you may want to try the on board flash first to see it is sufficient for you before investing... Memory card: I use 2 Sandisk cards with no issue...

You can try shopping ard for the dry cabinet n memory card during the PC show, you may find good deals...

Cheers!

Similar sentiments when I was a newbie years ago. Researching various brands, including Nikon, Canon, Sony etc(was a Nikon SLR user) when I stumble upon photos taken by Pentax cams...I like it instantly and found the colors are natural and 3D like...Got a K7 and never looked back...the SMC coating on the lens is really something to rekon with...not to mention the backward compatibility of all Pentax vintage lens...got a few lenses since then and some as vintage as 40+yrs old but still take excellent photos :)

Just get at any good photography equipment shop.
PC Show, most stuff at RRP.
They may offer you free this and that, but all have actually been pre-charged into the system sale price.
The free stuff are 'sucky' as well and either gets little use or replaced real soon.

A friend of mine once got his D90 for $1699 at one of the PCs show. It came with tripod, dry-cab and the lot of low end freebies.
But the fact was D90 was a 1.5-2yr old model by then, and probably only cost $1200-$1400 street prices.
As usual, other than the dry cab, the rest of the stuff he outgrew with 3-6mths and got new/better ones.

Thank you all for the tips, I'm going to get the camera nowwwwwww. :bsmilie:
