There are limitations to where you can bring your DSLRs. therefore a point and shoot would be perfect for that S.H.E concert or when Takuya Kimura comes to singapore for a media event.

and also, Camcorders have longer recording times than DSLRs and Compacts due to the heat dissipation for prolonged usage of the sensor. and that's where they trump the DSLR.

I disagree.
I will still opt for a DSLR + a PnS. Reason being: as a backup and it is easy to carry.
I am using a S95 and i feel that it compliments my dslr perfectly..

point & shoot cam vs phone cam;
in very good light, the difference in IQ may not be that huge, but in low light, the phone cam really CMI, esp against higher end compacts like the S95, LX5, XZ-1 etc. also, there is no optical zoom for the phone cam. (comparisons between Nokia N8 and Panasonic LX5)

camcorder vs phone cam;
i am quite surprised by the HD video quality of my nokia N8 phone, which can easily rival that of compact cameras. i am not inclined to buy a camcorder because i am quite happy with my N8

I have my D7000 and great for taking picture with creativity mood swing in.... but my recent purchase of COOLPIXL21 at $115 and runs on 2x AA batteries is perfect in my bag all the time, even if the juice runs out, just look for 7-11 or mama shop to buy AA batteries... For work it fits nicely in my back pocket to go onboard vessel to shoot items... and in normal days there are emergency like road accident where I shoot pic of the scene and damage of the other party vehicle so that there is no dispute on the extend of damage later and also the driver who bang me, this has help me won 2 past car accident where the other party insurer pay for everything... and for shopping when you see an item and wants to record down the item and price, model no etc, just take a pic of it... and even if I loss this camera also not heart pain, or drop it or even shooting in light drizzle... things that I will fear to do with my D7000. And this PnS does give decent photo with good lighting.

I don't own a VideoCam… and I won't ditch my PnS also. DSLR isn't suitable for all occasion…

thats where µ4/3/NX/NEX cameras come in handy... if you had the cash it probably would be better invest in one of those rather than a PNS/Camcorder... light, convenient to carry around, significant IQ improvement(since they're using large sized sensors)...

Just like the good old days... a SLR matched with a rangefinder.

PnS is useful because of portability. I carry my toy camera whenever I go jogging so that I can take some photos whenever there is a nice scene in front of me. It would be crazy to carry my dslr and go for long distance jogging due to the weight and size. Somehow I don't like using the touch screen buttons on my mobile phone so I still opt for toy camera though its spec is worse than phone cam.

I dun find the need to share my photos immediately or asap after taking them. Also, I tend to shoot in raw most of the time so I dun find the need for art filters.
