Post your 'Before' & 'After' Post Processing pictures

this was one of my earliest extensive pp trials. done last year 2 months after i switched to a DSLR..
the original shot was fine but look more like a shot that can be done even with a point a shoot cam..

if i were to do this same photo again today i might have done something different.
i seldom go to this extent of pp nowadays as i have already gotten a zoom lens which could do the same above effect.

This is an interesting topic, hope to keep it going, will go back to dig out something to contribute. However, if the PP is not too extensive, can the poster include the steps involved? That will make this thread even more useful, given it is in the digital darkroom thread. unless of course it is trade secret.

Hi, I dont really know if there is something to read on minimalist. First you must understand Photoshop and how to use gradient, multiply, screen creating layers and masking. You can go to You tube and learn something on all this but alot and alot of practice. you must also be quite good in cloning and so on.. and to really clean up the whole picture so that people cannot spot anything. I learn alot by looking at other minimalist pictures from Flickr and other sites. soulFLY pictures are the best to learn from and also how he compose and balance everything in minimalist process.
This shot is not really difficult to process but is still quite tough.
I use Aperture to start some processing and then of course noise reduction and convert it in SilverEfex Pro. The last will be in Photoshop and the most important step to create the right gradient and create layers for multiply and screen, masking process, adjusting the fills and opacity that give you a good minimalist composition and good balance in exposure, contrast and so on.. I am still learning and learning but I have found some basic steps for myself and this will be different from others. So is alot and alot of practice.:sweat::sweat:Thanks.

yup, i included the steps for my edited photo... hope the rest can include theirs too! Not to worry dun have to give very detail... just a quick summary what u did and i think it will benefit everyone!

minimalistic is not purely about photoshopping a photo. it's the way you compose and express your subject in your image. What Manita did was more digital manipulation than photography (albeit a nicely done up one). Read up more on the true minimalistic approach by various landscape shooters that focuses more on photography itself. One of my fav is Michael Kenna.

I strongly agree.

It's all about acquiring the eye for minimalist art. If you know what you're doing, digital manipulation wouldn't be an option at all. But it's also good to know that when you're stuck in a rut, a little bit of Photoshop know-how may save the day. At the end of the day it is the outcome that matters afterall.

Yes, Manita did a fantastic job. And yes, Michael Kenna is god.
