Unlikely I 'll be getting the K-7 since, despite the intial euphoria, after careful consideration, it looks like the new features don't help my shooting requirements much, and the improvements I want aren't there, especially when it means I'll be shelling out SG$1.8k. ALL I want is a K20D with faster AF and reliable predictive AF....in all other ways, the K20D is more than sufficient for me.:)

Also, the current iteration of the K-7 seems to have some firmware/hardware bugs, so if at all I am buying, I'll wait for a firmware update or a K-7super.

Also awaiting the update/successor to the D300 and A700 to see how they compare to the k-7.

The title of this thread should actually be "Say No Money for K-7" user thread.
The increased responsiveness is reason enough to buy a K-7, but the biggest reason why many have not switched is because of funding.

LOL... Can't say for the rest, but that's definitely true for me... :bsmilie:
But with the recent direction of my company's share price, I might have funding sooner than expected...

Not saying you should get it, but all I wanted was a K20D with faster AF.

And I got it :p

(The other improvements were very nice too).

Do wait for the D300/50D replacements though!

Honestly I suspect that maybe the 7D/60D (Canon "pro" crop) + 70-200 2.8IS plus pentax for travel/size might be the way to go :D

Not that I use telephoto enough to justify that sort of expenditure :)

If you can sell your K20D for say 900 to 1k, that's not exactly shelling out 1.8k. ;)

I paid SG$1.8k for the K20D and SG$240 for the BG2 last year, so selling it at SG$900 after just a year of use for a loss of SG$1.1k, plus paying SG$1.8k for a new K-7 is not feasible for me.

If the K-7 had true predictive AF, as well as the possibility of faster focusing SDM lenses being released down the line, then it would be a no brainer...but unfortunately, that's not the case as things stand. Apparently the K-7's AF system still cannot keep up with the framerate, and FPS drops down to 3-3.5 when in AF-C mode (according to some on DPR). I don't want to pay SG$1.8k just for the mag-alloy body, crippled video and a few other improvements which don't matter to me; IQ too seems to be about the same or slightly worse than the excellent output of the K20D, so no incentive there either.

I am toying with the idea of getting a A700/D300/50D successor plus a couple of long lenses in addition to the pentax gear, so I have all bases covered. Later, I can sell one of the systems and stick to just one depending on which one serves my requirements the best..yeah it'll cause me some financial loss down the line, but I can make an informed decision once and for all, and be done with it.:dunno:

I will check the AF.C framerate for you. Let me know the exact parameters you are interested in? (e.g. stationary object okay?)

In considering this point, do note that if "in-focus" is an issue, there is some evidence that the K-7 has dramatically improved), from: http://falklumo.blogspot.com/2009/06/k-7-and-its-continous-autofocus-part-i.html and see further that author's comments at: http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/pentax-dslr-discussion/67160-af-c-k-7-marketing-trick.html

FWIW (since obviously subjective) I think that the improvement in feel (responsiveness, VF improvement, AF.S AF speed indoors, horizon control) of the K-7 is reason enough to get it.

The lack of AF firmware for K20D... makes me feel buying an early versions ... will have short-fall if they come out another model...they will dropped the ball from the previous models.

Af-C is something that had been overdued .. a Nik D3OO-photographer "K10D ex-pentaxian switched my k20d Af-C to AF-S during a model shot earlier this year or late last year and adviced me that it's quite quick to use that mode from his experience ..

But I still wonder how good really is the D300 compare to K7:think:

But the Battery Price for K7 from Japan somebody mentioned already scare the living daylight out of me. I love Pentax, but it doesn't luv me anymore for the moment.

Currently using K10D

Reason for not upgrading. Spent too much money on holiday this year. So no camera until 2010

Not to discourage all, Selling a 1 year old K20d for 900 ain't reasonable for the moment as brand new body costs as low as 1100 as per Gengh's pricelist. If I were the buyer I still buy the new one with a 18month warranty in case I could find within the 1100 pricepoint. but still, the difference 200 is big money especially that can be used for buying a decent set of lens.

Thanks; appreciate it very much for taking the trouble. :)
If you can check framerate with AF-S mode and AF-C mode on a stationary subject, and if possible AF-C on a moving subject, that would be awesome. Noise etc doesn't matter, so just use a fast enough shutter speed to get shake-free images.

Will Gtalk with you sometime tomorrow..got a nasty report to finish up today.

can't get over the pentax?

Pentax IQ + other features = too good to simply abandon it without careful consideration. Cannot leave Pentax unless there is absolutely no other option.

Other systems have lots of other drawbacks/issues...so the choices are not very straightforward, despite what other brands advertisements say.
If the AF system in Pentax was on par with the other makes, then there is no reason to even look at the others.

current body: K200d

Reason: k7 can take AA batteries without battery grip and I love my AA batteries. (useful as when no bat just buy at nearest shop lor )
and.. as usual, no $$ saving for a DA*50-135 now :bsmilie:

You heard what the Man had to say ...................... it took some time to say NO ......... and NO means NO .......... oh no ...maybe ..... :p

The man say it : my concern was How Hoya would want it role-play in Pentax and how would Pentax legacy be affected .. it was heard that Hoya engineers were formerly from Nikon and the K7 seem to be like a complete reincarnations of Hoya statements and with some elements from Pentax ... I hope the re-invention of the wheel, would not cause a reduction of Pentax altruism which in the first place, has it's soul in many of the pentaxians which some called cult bands the name Pentax a mystical organic loyalty in Hoya system.
