Here have a lot of crazy idea of 'chopping'.

I was at Alexandra road yesterday evening to buy dinner. A car parked 2 lots and i went up asked : kindly park your car properly so i can park in. He told me as you know it is very hard to get a lot here. The 2 lots one of it he reserved for a friend who is on the way.

I suck thumb lor. So he chope lots with his car. What can i do.

actually, honest to god, i wanted to say that, but here will be people saying it is too far fatch, like some of my friends. cant blame them, these things, you have to have a personal encounter to believe. than again, there will be those who believe lightning dont strike same place twice.

And even if it's a normal pack of tissue, it doesn't belong to you, and u taking it is considered as stealing. You would not take a 50 dollar note on the table and spent it, just because someone left it there.

Personally, I see nothing wrong with that.

I'd wave it around and ask if it belongs to anyone. A naked $50 unclaimed on the table is fair game. Otherwise, why don't people try using that to chope seats? So are you going to call the cops on me if I took a piece of tissue from your packet and blew my nose with it?

It's not an acceptable practice because if it were, it wouldn't be such a hot topic in the first place. It only seems that way because the ones who are annoyed prefer to let things slide, and this is taken advantage of the selfish few to make it an "acceptable practice". And of course, after a while, "if you can't beat them, join them" - everyone seems to do it.

- But that still doesn't make that "acceptable" practice.

It shouldn't be.

It's shameful.

yup, lots of thing are shameful if you think about it,

japs like to eat whales, people like to drive big cars / sports car in singapore, contributing to pollution...

endless list.

like i said, it is easy to talk the talk, will you walk the talk when the going gets urgly?

so, doing right thing very stress, so do the less right thing, move on and enjoy dinner right. i also agree.

when push comes to shove, some peps will do wadever it takes to get their way. sometimes it betta not to escalate an issue, not when its uncertain how long the men in blue will arrive on scene.

men in blue very short of manpower, if not lucky encounter hooligan. u bet on passersby coming to ur aid when things get ugly...

Well GOOD for u.

I will not be bothered with people who do that but i will call the police if you used the 50 dollar note. Personally it's a norm for people to do it.
It is an acceptable habit.

Few days ago I was at Lau Pa Sat...there were two chaps chopping the table using "Headhunter" catalog....I knew it was seat chopping but I was desperate for a space so I took chance....I just swept them aside and do a quick one.....a few minutes later 2 chaps (1 ang moh and 1 banana...didn't know they learn this trick but too bad...wrong item used) came back with char kueh teow on their hand and eye big big....I just "oops..I tot someone left that behind and laught off"....they also LL and had to share the space since the table is good for 4 :sweatsm:

the foodcourt, coffee shop owners dun agree its shameful leh...

but when they know they can reduce cost of staffing an outfit by encouraging patrons to clear their trays after a meal, MTL- in the name of graciousness!

lol...

thats because you have not meet those who will give you a "jolly good time". pray hard you dont get that, pray harder if you get that, you are alone and not with your love ones.

i came across this twist,

1) 1st time they gave me a "jolly good time", but i let police handle, nothing happen (went for hospital check up + sub-court).

2) than 2nd time similar thing happened, so i had a "jolly good time party" with that groups since police dont do nothing.

edit : so my question to you is, are you up for the game? is it worth your while to stand up for whats right? also, if you ever en-counter 1 such case personally, will you still do the right thing (minority's view in this case) in the future? will you be man enough to do it with your love ones with you? can you protect them? yes, you can make police report, yes, police may be able to arrest the people, but harm to you and your love ones already happen, does that makes you feel better?

edit : they are different groups.

Really sorry to hear of your unfortunate encounters. Maybe you were simply at the wrong place and at the wrong time. and I do understand your concerns arising from these bad incidents.

However, that also seems like a threat of some sorts to cower to the unreasonable? Of course we have to protect ourselves, so thinking a bit would be important. Most of the time, the tissue packet owner uses the packet to chope four seats (as in a fast food restaurant). I'd still take the seat, and when the person comes back, there are still three seats for him to choose.

The location also plays an important part. Of course I wouldn't do so in Geylang at 11pm. Otherwise, seriously, I am not worried.

By and large, the fear of most people is probably not from getting beaten up. It's more of being embarrassed in public by the office girl who gives you the stare, the auntie who would scream at you, and all the kaypohs videoing the incident and posting it to STOMP!
