RAW to DNG

Anyone convert their Raw files to DNG?
I wonder if the long term support is as good as jpeg or TIFF files as Adobe would have you believe. If it is, I don't mind converting all my RAW files to DNG. I find the propriety RAW have no longevity over say, 10 years. Upgrade machine, upgrade OS, old software cannot use, quickly convert to jpeg which is yuck:sticktong

What are your thoughts?

I have the same query. Although DNG would reduce file size by 20% as compared to RAW. What's the trade off?

RAW is proprietary and therefore prone to changes by the manufacturer of the camera. The release of Canon 50D has shown clearly that such changes come without much consideration of third party software, even the Canon software was updated after the market launch of the camera.

It is not only safe but also advisable to convert RAW into DNG, the files become independent from the camera and can be edited by any software that supports DNG.

Exactly. I find it ridiculous to EVEN have differing standards within the different models of the same camera brands. I guess it gives the software engineers something to do....
Yeah, I will convert all my RAWs to DNG. :thumbsup:
