Photo taking at Airport and MRT Stations

Aren't MRT stations public areas? I have taken photos in many stations before and no one came to tell me anything. But I was a pns..

For airport it is a different case. I was at the arrival hall waiting for my dad to come out and I saw this cute baby girl leaning on the glass, so I took out the same pns and started to snap.
3minutes later, the officer behind the glass door, came out and asked me to stop. But what so secretive about that area? Even if I don't fish out a camera, I can use my eyes to look and see everything. :dunno:
That was at terminal 3. Has anyone seen the "No photography" sign there?

The security stopped me from taking photographs of the airplane at the boarding gate in Budget Terminal. Then, asked me to delete. But, he didn't check if I had deleted.

my fren jus told her i wanted to snap the sunset... she allowed me to carry on...

Took some shots from the mrt track not long ago using film. Take cam from bag...shoot...wind...shoot...put back into bag. Done.

Helps when the camera used is an old manual nikon fe2 with the "pancake" 50 f1.8 E series. Looked like a clumsy old camera...

As for airport, it is known that you cant take photos of sensitive areas. There IS a difference between what you can see and what you can take photos of. For eg, if you use your eyes to look, and then sketch a rough sketch, its harder to plan terrorist attacks, compared to you email a photo of the terminal to Osama and friends.

For eg, if you use your eyes to look, and then sketch a rough sketch, its harder to plan terrorist attacks, compared to you email a photo of the terminal to Osama and friends.

actually hor, any places where there are people coming and going without much restriction is considered public area, even if the property is owned by someone else. mrt stations are public areas (thats y they called it public transportation system). control rooms of mrt station are not public since they are not easily accessed by the public. a shopping complex is public. a shopping complex office is not. the area before passing passport control or even arrival or departure area is public. the area after is restricted, hence not public.

if u r doing so, u r playing with the loopholes in the law. however, should u be discovered, the government will definately be able to charge u with 1 way or the other.

easiest method is to get ISD to arrest u with the reason of terrorism or espionage.

i remembered monkey years ago, even before the terrorist incident, SMRT put up a rules and regulations on dos and donts on the mrt stations.

photography/video is one of them. i remembered cause when i was in primary school i misbehaved and the station master made me read the rules and regulations 10 times lolz

So a park is not a public place, but it is owned and maintain by NParks? And that NParks is a government agency.

So is the arrival hall a sensitive area?
You're assuming that using your eyes to see, you tend to forget it easily. So what happens if a person with photographic memory enters the airport? Will he escorted or banned from entering? Photographic memory may sound like an exaggeration, but there are people who can remember scenes and objects very well. One can even be trained to do so.

Nope. Take Wheelock Place as a classic example. Shopping mall right?

Public place? Wrong.

The building is owned by the management of Wheelock Place, and it is merely a private place open to public access. They can (and have) restricted photography within their premises. Because it is a private place open to public access, their place, their rules.

Yes, the Management got every rights to ask u to delete the photo taken. The Management also got the rights to chase people out if caught doing nuisane or infriged their rules and regulations of their premises.
