You mentioned one important point, yah most competitions u shoot for, higher chances of winning is when the judges have a preference for certain genre of shots. Last year i guess, were preference for straightforward, no underlying meanings. This year, i don't know, i didn't even know Tristan gave a lecture although i reached at 7.30am, was the lecture annouced? :sweatsm:

Nope, it was like out of the blue. And it was around after the 1st assignment i think. And judges, i don't think there were judges, just a judge. Biased judging? I don't know. :dunno:

The rules never say cannot do studio shots mah i think....in that case maybe next year form group, rent a hotel room nearby for a day as ad hoc photo studio. 3hrs can do quite a lot of things.

I think there's more than 1 judge (if based on the assumption that Tristan is 1 of the judges)...because I asked a Canon staff whether in-camera post production (like sepia/black and white tones) are allowed before the event started and the staff asked me to wait while she go asks the judge. Then I see her walking towards a guy (not Tristan) regarding my question.

it's a fun day :)
even this year doesn't have ice cream, brand essence chicken, milk and stuff... :)
my only complain...
the DJ ! you know, when we are enjoying the slideshow, suddenly got DJ from 93.3.. suddenly speaking in chinese in front.. while i believe 1/4 ( or less or more? ) of the people there didn't understand chinese... ( i'm understand a bit ) no offence or what... but i think the audience there come from many different background and country...
and plus... I want to see the slideshow badly... more than seeing those DJs.... ( no offence for the DJ :) )

ps : ahhh.. i don't see the infamous bobdoom yesterday!! rugi laaa... should ask his signature and photo together with him ( with clothes ) :)

i was!!! playin games with glenn ong... on stage,.... meheheehhe

This photo competition is about photojournalism? Street Photography? Run like a Madman within the 3 hours.

OR

Staged scenerios? Sure can get the subject swee swee.

OR

Photos within a photo? Photos taken by Pro and Reshot again.

OR

Comical shots? More photos to tickle the judges.

OR

Not Canon Cameras? Why argue about what equipment.... the person take the photos not the camera.

This year the photos are ...... OK.

Greatly enjoyed myself during the photomarathon. Was a 1st time participant and this competition totally blew my expectations away.

Some of the photos of the 3 winning themes were very creative and original yet simple.. Guess I'd have to read more to gain more knowledge to get myself prepared for next year's competition. Hopefully holding a Dslr (used a S5IS during the event).

Though some may say that it is the creativity of the photographer, I'd like to say that the equipments used plays a big part in attaining THE shots (e.g. Fisheye).

anyway, 1 thing I dislike about the competition is that the organizers weren't able to uphold their rule of participants adhering to the timings. The organizers gave too much of a leeway by constantly extending the time, that actually lowered the integrity of the whole competition. To those that strictly conformed to the timing set by the organizers, they are made to wait for those who have the polychronic time mindset. not very fair.

Other than that, Kudos to the whole event and the participants. Congratulations to the Winners as well.

Cheers!

Um hi guys, I just started photography like... Just a month ago, and I'm using a 450D. And actually I won second prize for the theme freedom in the student cat. I'm really shocked, to be honest.

Here's my flickr, add me!

Ahaha, thank you :) Should I add watermarks to my pictures? Sorry I'm still really noob at this.

I simply cannot see anything related to freedom here, but I love to know what goes through your mind (as an award winning photographer) how you perceive this pic for the theme freedom? Too blind to see :bsmilie:

I believe it says something like... "Free as a bird" ;)

Aahha, cos to me the sky represents freedom. So I chose to project the silhouette of a sky into the sky to show the theme. :) Haha, but I very lazy to edit watermark into all my pictures >_>

"10 smart people, they smelt fart."
Priceless from Glenn Ong. Lol:sticktong

Ahaha, yeah but I camped there for like 20 min and it didn't. :(

I know! I was hoping so badly that I could catch it flapping its wings or flying off. Argh. Oh well, second is good enough, considering it's my first competition and stuff. :)
