if you can't try out at the camera, you can always go to www.flickr.com, and search for the pictures taken by the pentax camera you are looking at. just search for the model and you can see tons of pictures taken by it.

Hello Pentax users...

contemplating on a camera...currently eyeing the olympus e520 as i like the light-weightedness and its focal length thingy of times 2 compared to 35mms..

I was wondering..just a simple question..

Why a Pentax??

My first Pentax was a K1000 + 50mm, f2 back in 1975.

In 1993 I took these pics in Japan (scan from photo but yellowish). 15 years ago these pics were great.

After 33 years the K1000 is still my first SLR but now I included MZ-3, MZ-3 SE, iSTD & K20D.

I could almost smell the print.

is the KM ggod for beginners to learn on?

The istD is quite film-like. U used film lenses? Film prints give a very nostalgic feeling - as if time had gone a long way back.
OT: I also happened to look at some class photos taken in 1993 when I was in P6. The yellow prints make it feel so long ago, though in memories, I thought it wasn't such a long time back.

i find pentax hard to find in SG.....i would love to feel K200D...before i make a choice..
i have tried a Canon..and it feels good in my hand(the lens selection is good)...i can have many choice..(of course only get those i need.:))

is the K200D good performer at iso1600? I love to up the ISO in low light...

U can't really find them readily in common electronics stores like HN, Courts, etc. But they are quite readily available in your common camera shops. And if you think the Canon feels good in your hands, you should be awed by the k200d. iirc, k200d uses the same sensor as k10d and I wouldnt go beyond iso800.

As the pic was taken in 2005, I cannot remember which lens I used, either the istD kit lens or film lens. When I use Penatx Photo Browser, the lens info is F-28-80mm, but I have FA-28-90mm.

So you went back the same place 12 years later. The place looks pretty much the same except that the trees have grown bigger. Ha.

Also fresh coat of paint.

So far visited the same place about 4 times, on my own in 1993 and the rest with customers.

I remember when the Golden Temple was under repainting, not to disappoint visitors, they erected a huge painting of the building at the spot where I took the photos so that visitors can take pictures of the not the real thing...

I would say that ISO 1600 is not that bad compared with the competition.
The default NR in K200D is off, so you may switch it on to "Weak" or "Strong" depending on your taste.

if i'm not wrong, based on what i've read, k200d has better noise processing than k10d.. ;)

would the K-M be a good model to try dslr photography as compared to the K200d?
I'm also looking at a 2nd hand k10d....value for money is very important to me...

What am looking for are basically..

1. A good value for money model..
2. Affordable accesories(Lens..Flash..etc)
3. Something not canon or nikon
4. Allows me to learn the basics to photography without giving up due to unnescessary headache-inducing functions..
5. Allows me to express myself
6. Image stabilisation in body..
7. Dust reduction system...

Pentax in on my wish list for the next IT show in Dec...but seriously, I am thinking of getting a DSLR and is thinking between Pentax and Olympus. I realise that Pentax like to bundle their deal with a 55-300 mm lens. Base on the focal length, I assume this is a "non-digital" lens, will this cause any problem that i heard so much in Canon and nikon of not getting the best out of the cam when we use a "non-digital" lens in a DSLR?

All of the current Pentax digital systems offer all of the above.
DPreview may be a good start for you to compare each camera.
In the end, it boils down to your need and taste.

"Non-digital"? The DA 55-300 is a new lens released early this year! Anyway, many Pentaxians here have "non-digital" lenses, don't think they give any problems....
