The 'loss of facial features' at ISO 800 is pretty typical, fuzzy like my Fuji F31 - I'd get the same thing. Difference is, the LX3 is 10MP, so you should see less of it at equal print sizes.

I agree the 'oversharpened lines' effect looks like JPEG compression, but maybe it's Panasonic's new processing? Not sure which is worse, F31 or LX3 - must try parallel test at 800. I think both give ugly results at 1600.

u got F31? Wanna go for a side-by-side test?

imho, try to stay around iso 200 max, if u want to take portraiture shot using the lx3,
detail wise of course cannot be compared to a dslr, but given at it tremdous dept of field even at f2.
i can have the advantage of taking a wide angle shot at f2 without fear of having my shot oof.

You refering to LX1 or LX3? I find LX3 acceptable. Of course cannot fight with SLRs.

I've arbitarily tested the shutter lag, with AF pre-focused, shooting a moving car, the lag is about subject having moved half out of center where the shutter is depressed.

As for AF lag... disabling the macro mode and using only center AF point significantly reduce the AF lag.

Thanks for the info. Was referring to the LX3. AF lag is not a problem with pre-focus, but more concerned about shutter lag.

LX1 was quite slow, and missed quite a few shots of skitterish kids, not even talking about moving cars! So much so, i used it mainly for static/scenery shots.

You are talking about 1Dm3 category here.:sweat::sweat:

My 30D also cannot keep up wif my kids.

hahahaha... we're just talking about turning the head, not even moving the body! Hmmm..... skip LX3 and go straight to 1Dm3... that's an idea...

Yeah sure! I think it will put to rest some questions ppl have about image quality (I predict a tie actually). But I think the OIS, f/2, MF etc. make the LX3 handling a class above the F31. Must test the responsiveness also... the F31 is speedy for a compact.

cool... PMed you.

Just a musing here... with f/2 lens, hotshoe and 1/2000 sync speed...
this looks like it's gonna be an awesome strobist cam.
I tried attaching a elinchrom skyport transmitter to the lx3. It looks like it was made for it.

All this is a dream till i get the $ =D

The following series of photos is purely a demo of how far one can push the LX3. This is also a testimony of how effective the stabilized lens. ISO 3200 f/2 1/30 shot from a moving train. EXIF intact.

Notice that the "noise" is in lines rather than dots... dunnoe if it's normal or the algorithm can be tweaked more.

Fuji F50FD also exhibit similar type of noise, probably inherent to the small sensor?

Point to note... ISO 640 is very usable:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Can't show my pic here tho.:embrass:

yup, even f31fd got the same problem once hitting ISO800 at night situation.

I've been using LX-1 for the last couple of years and this LX-3 is a big improvement for me. With the super F2.0, ISO 400 is perfectly usable for me :)
